I've been thinkin'. (If everyone looks outside towards the west they can see the smoke.)
PCs are powerful machines designed to make our lives more convenient and entertaining. Cars are too. The problem we are having as lovers of both, is when we combine the two we inject a certain level of danger. We have all tried to mitigate this risk in various ways:
- Touchscreens
- Trackballs
- Touchpads
- Space Nav/Powermate
Though helpful, they still have not completely solved the problem of being able to control our PCs while keeping our hands on the wheel and our eyes on the road. Voice Control is by far the best option, but the price of the software and the time it takes to configure does not make it the most convenient.
My idea is to reverse Voice Control. What if the makers of FEs programmed there software to give an audible confirmation of functions? As you ran the mouse pointer over various buttons, the FE would say what the button is (once; when you moved the pointer off the button and back on it will re-id the button). True it may get annoying at times, but it could really help those that use trackballs and touch pads; even touchscreens. It could be programmed to turn on at certain speeds (say 20 mph) and off at say (5 mph) so you dont have to use it at stoplights.
It is a strech but it just crossed my mind I thought I would throw it out there.
