OBDI PC interface

Anyone know where to get some type of interface for OBDI ECUs to connect and pull data to a PC?
Im building a HUD (HEADS UP DISPLAY) and Id rather have something besides visualizations and song titles as well as temperatures.

I know there are OBDII interfaces like AutoTap.com
But I need OBDI. Anything you guy know that I maybe can wire up manually to pull the data, like adding a sensor or what not?

OBDI was much less standardized than OBDII so you have to search for vehicle specific information.

What are you using to make the HUD, one of those reflective films on the inside of the windshield?

Unsure which film your referring to (IF you know of one by all means

I work a second job @ a car customizing shop and we had a vette with a HUD.
Looking @ the setup it looked like basically an LCD w/ a mirror that reflects it on the windshield.

I know vettes have a film made ino the windshield to reflect, but Im unsure if I really need it. well have to see.

I know ODBI was less standardized, but I was wondering if there was a stand alone system that will pull info into a PC using its own sensors. I can connect sensors, thats not a problem, I just dont know of any out there. Im looking for resonably priced

You do need the film, unless you want two fuzzy images ofset by about .1 inches. And you could probably get a ADC probe card by ti or something of the like off ebay to which you could connect your own sensors to. I think there's been some talk of that before on here.

I don't think your lcd will work for a hud unless you put a backliht behind it and a bright on at that. LCD's don't give out light they block it or let it pass through so there won't be any light coming out to reflect off the windshield. Also you will need some kind of reflective film on the window of the light will just pass through

How are you gonna mirror the image so that when you look at the windshield its the right image? That's the only major problem I've encountered. Also even with the film you'll still see doubles. Only its not as bad with out the film

Ok since I have worked in the windshield repair bizzness for some time I know that every windshield has to have a film. If they didnt then there would be alot of blind people in the world. The film in the windshield is designed to hold it together untill you can get repaired. Now there could be a strip in the vette's windsheild that would allow for easier viewing durning day time driving but a light strip of tint would work just as well. A very light tint

You can get by without the film for a while but your hud would need to be bright as hell for driving durning the day. I would suggest a red color hud since red is the easiest on the eyes.

I would send an e-mail to autotap about a OBDI conenction. I want to say they have something for that type of system. Or at least I remember reading they did.

Thats another thought Custommx3, but I didnt see anywhere on where to buy it but then again all I did was glace over it.

The kit comes with some stick-on film. You can probably find out what it is and get just the film.

The best way I know to reverse an entire monitor image is to use the NVKeystone utility distributed with the NVidia driver. I don't know what chipset it requires (probably GF4MX at least), but it is capable of reversing the entire screen image. I use NVKeystone all the time with projectors to distort the entire desktop and have used it to do rear/ceiling projection on projectors that did not support it. NVKeystone is by far the best utility when you need your entire screen distorted for whatever reason. The only real problem with it is that it's not possible to get a pixel-accurate horizontal or vertical flip. Everything is just a little blurry (fine for presentations or something).. also the framerate suffers the larger your screensize is.. 800x600 flipped is great, 1600x1200 flipped is not!

Oh yeah, since this is in-car, I should note that it is possible to buy geforce 4 PCI cards. They ARE out there!
