now theres an idea!!!!! you may be on to something there....since it's invisible no cop can ticket you for it, but cameras might be blinded by it..... I like that... especially here in ny as there going crazy with the red light cameras......gotta try that.... now how to test it.......

There was an article awhile back which gave me the idea. This scientist was writing about how a laser pointer + scope could be used to take out cameras from blocks away with point sources. The sensors in the CCD basically bleed into the surrounding sensors leaving you with a big white blob around the areas. Certainly mil-spec cameras don't suffer from this but mostly all CCD and CMOS do.
To start, I'd try it with a decent video camera. Maybe a nightshot one.

I found this on ebay
After reading this tread I like the idea of buying a video camera with night vision instead.

Which one should I get?

IR led's are just led's....they do no magic, they do nothing thermal, they just filter to a narrow band of light that happens to be invisible to humans.....picture being in pitch black outside your car... now picture having 12 led's, regular white led's, like a ricers washer jet nozzles or something....pitch black....how much are you going to see? THAT'S how much an ifrared camera can see... & these are not high power super bright led's at all especially due to the filtering, so were talking stuff that's10- 20 ft away being too dark to really make out....
NOW picture same sinario, pitch black, but kick on your high beams........ now how much can you see?? THAT'S what a infrared lense on a high powered lamp can see....were talking blocks & blocks....

:agreed:
You'd need some high output to make speed. 60mph is what, ~88ft a second?

We have these at work. Kind of big for a car and there is a red hue to it when its on. They come in spot or flood light. If you get in front of them you can feel the heat.

hey folks.. im a newbie here, i dont have a computer in my jeep, i dont have any of these cool mods at all to be honest..
i found this thread doing a google search..
a few facts that i happen to know,
1. IR is not just used by poachers, yes, you can use it to poach deer (only allowed to hunt deer durring daylight hours.. but there noctournal animals.. go figure) BUT, you *ARE* allowed to hunt cyote at night, and to be able to see them, IR is perfect.
2. I happen to have an ELF1 moncular (googe that, its russian and no longer made) this little baby is quite usefull actually, it see's in low light and has an IR illuminator that allows it to see in TOTAL darkness. HOWEVER.. the IR illuminator has a red glow to it and it emmits a faint, but audibale tone (could be just me.. i hunt deer and have trained my ears to hear the faintest sounds) HOWEVER, this devise DOSE NOT allow you to have ANY depth perception. human sight is based on having 2 eyes.. thus allowing us to have a "3d" view of things. most NV devices that you can get (unless your into dropping $1,500+ on military grade NV) does not have provisions to deal with this..
yes. NV is fun.. would i drive by it? No.
here's a tip tho.. if your interested in spending this much time and energy on this... why not just drop the big bucks on the military grade NV? also check into military grade NV "headlights"...they drive those humvee's in the dark wearing goggles and using NV headlights... (crazy crazy crazy)
