no bass with multiple aux inputs...?

i have an alpine 7894 deck with its aux input, and a ps2 and shuttle computer hooked up to it via y-splitters. the problem is, when using the y-splitters, no bass frequencies come from the computer...the ps2 works fine whether directly connected or on a y-splitter, but the computer only puts out freq ~5khz and up with it. directly connected, the computer works fine as well...

any thoughts on what causes no bass or midbass?

furthermore and a lil off topic, what is the best way to get rid of that horrible hissing magnetic feedback when using the computer?

thanks a bunch,
geoff

well that Y splitter is feeding voltages both to your HU and shuttle pc when the PS2 is being used and its ALSO feeding voltage to the PS2 and HU when the shuttle pc is being used. That said you can damage the outputs of either component.

The problem you are encounting is the RCA outputs of your PS2 have a higher voltage output than your shuttle pc has. It can go either way.

The problem you are encoutering is your "Y" splitter. If you really want to get rid of the problem, you can get a mixer?!?!?! or even connect the PS2 to the inputs of your shuttle and use the shuttle for the audio of your PS2.

Its confusing and its gonna be a pain in the *** to fix.

The problem with your hissing comming from the shuttle is ground loop noise. Do a search this has been discussed millions of times. It can be alot of things.

found a somewhat solution to the problem

i discovered today, while trying to use both pc and ps2 at the same time, that all frequencies from the comp play nicely if the ps2 is on, even with the ysplitters

i dicked around with the deck some and got ride of 75% of the hiss by changing the settings around, but theres still some...i will check the ground on everything come tomarrow, thanks for that input

the only complaint im having now is that there isnt enough bass coming from the computer, but i can attribute that to basic stock mb stereo output from like 5-6 years ago. i should be able to fix that prob with a sb audigy card that im getting

one question...just HOW bad is feeding voltage back into each component? will it do permanent damage in a couples weeks of use? thanks in advance

the voltage "blowback" I guess is not harmfull. I've had my puter and ps2 hooke up like that for a year with no probs.
