Minidisc drive

I'm using portable minidics player often, so i asked myself why not make something to listen MD cassettes in the car. Its very usefull, its small and you can hold 5hrs of music in it.
I remember once i saw desktop computer Sony Vaio with minidisc drive:

I couldnt find anywhere those drives. Does anyone of you know where you can get them from?

I'll just add minidiscs on 5 hour mode (forgot the technical code.. MDLP?) sounds like ***. Its really that bad. But if you wanted an MD in your car why not just a portable md playeR?

That reminds me of the question I hear often, "Why didn't you just get one of Head Units that plays MP3's" when referring to my carputer.

I have the sony mdlp head unit in my car. I gave up mindiscs. The thing takes too long to power up and spin the drive, there's no aux input. I have two minidisc recorders, one's an old realtime recorder and the other's a sony sport md (32x write). The software sux for mdlp recorders, it's not like nero. You have to check-in the songs, check-out, encode and then burn. Encoding takes forever, and the sound quality sux. Also if you try to encode a copyrighted mp3, you will get minutes of silence. I used to be the biggest minidisc fanatic, until they invented 52x cd-r's.

Also those md drives only burn at 8x max and only audio. If you want to store data you'll ned to find an MD data drive, very rare

If sony had made the original minidisc data drive compatible with the audio disks and released at the same price level as the audio drives, do you think we would ever have heard of iomega & their zip disks?

I agree, MD's just suck. Less capacity than a cd, and overpriced. A cd full of mp3's can easily supply 12 hours of music vs MD's 5. Why would anyone want them?
