CF Cards or Laptop HD?

I"m planning to change my current HD into something smaller (and something that uses less energy) I basically have 2 choice...2 1/2 actually.

1. Get a Laptop HD.
2. Get a CF-IDE adapter and a CF card.
2.5. Get a EPIA-II and CF card.

For the CF, I'm just gonna put the OS onto it, and have a Laptop HD for everything else. Would this speed up my loading process? Since there's no moving parts in CF.

Nick.

CF cards have a much slower transfer speed then a laptop hard drive (32MBps max as opposed to ATA100). They are also far more expensive. The performance gain (if there is one) would be negligible compared to the expense of getting a 1GB CF card. Boot time's I've seen on CF cards tend to be around 20 seconds minimum, and I've gotten comparable times off a laptop drive.

Save your money, go with just a laptop drive.

thanks, that's exactly the type of answer I need to make my decision. I knew transfer speed is slow, but I though RAM would be faster than machanical. But if the speed is about the same, I'll just save my money and get a Laptop HD instead. Thanks Again.
