Not to sound repetitive...but thanks for all of your work!
I've used the swi-x on hundreds of cars. It's IR signal does not work properly with the media center receiver I have in my Lincoln LS. This should work.
The only problem I see is if the reference ground for the controls is not supplied at the HU. Hunting it down to convert it to 5v+ could be fun.
Thanks again for your information!

I a 120K resistor across pins 6 & 8 and another 120K across pins 1 & 3. Connect the X4S in parallel with one of theses sets of pins. First calibrate the joystick in windows then set your settings in SWC. I'll post some pics later.

I am working with Ben of Hybrid to find a way to use a regular PS2 mouse (since we dont use a mouse in the car lol, we have touchscreen) for these certain functions. 1st off, the wheel will be setup so we can pull the wheel out of the mouse, and put anywheres on our dash as a Rotary Volume Knob. Also the remaining 2nd and 3rd mouse button we are going to work on a function for those so we can put the buttons in our dash or steering wheel.

Any way to get this to work with controls that change the voltage? I am using a SWI-X with a Irman but would like to switch to this.

The change in voltage you are seeing is the result of a change of resistance.
Get the service manual for your vehicle (don't take my word for it) and you should find that your buttons will basically have a reference ground (12-), ground (12-), ill. (5v+ to 12+), and multiplex (this wire will have the varying voltage). The buttons apply varying resistors (resistor value assigned to button function) to the reference ground and feed that to the radio via the multiplexed wire.
That in a nutshell is how your factory system generically will work.
Follow the instructions posted above and this should work

ordered a service manual for my Lincoln LS...haven't got it yet
However, in the mean time I pulled off my airbag and discovered that my cruise controls are tied to my audio controls by a circuit with a five wire plug.
Not good.
My guess is that the cruise controls are multiplexed as well and share the reference ground with the audio controls. Meaning switching this to 5v+ would effect my cruise.
Or, I find a way to run a wire into my steering column and separate the two controls...not sure how I am going to do that.

According to this page, http://www.autotoys.com/x/catalog/UN...WIX_p_597.html
if you scroll down it does say 1999-2004 Grand Cherokee. So if this thing works, I can use your mod? or is it a bit more complicated than that?

I can't say anything for sure, I've never actually used an SWI-X, whether your car will work or not is pretty easy to test for though, so to get a real answer you should just go out with a volt meter and start testing your lines and see if you can find the ones that have differing resistance when you press the steering wheel buttons.
