connecting IR receiver to EPIA mobo header

Hey all,
Following some direction in some threads here as well as elsewhere, I have wired up an IR receiver to the Fast IR header on my EPIA motherboard. Problem is Windows acknowledges the device, but I cannot get any input read in on Girder. I used the FIR driver for this mobo available on Via's webpage.
I am using Windows XP on this box, and was thinking it might have something to do with the COM ports and how Windows does not assign virtual ports. So I used IRCOMM to achieve this, and have tried all the settings I can with the COM port assigned to the IR device. Still no luck.

Can someone help? Has anyone managed to get a device connected to the motherboard's header to work? I even tried a USB IR device as a test with no luck. I am not sure what to do... Please!

Question

OK, so I was reading and found out that Girder will not support IrDA devices, but another program called IRassistant will. I tried that one, and still no luck. I cannot seem to get the IR port to read anything in.

anyone?

WinLIRC may be the answer.

Hope this helps a little....

thanks for the link... it looks like almost no one has been able to achieve an internal solution (there are many which plug into an external serial port). I managed to make it work this weekend. I used an IR detector available from Radio Shack, along with a capacitor, a resistor, and a diode. You also need a voltage regulator to work with the detector.

WinLIRC WAS the answer, but I only figured that out after a bunch of reading and came across the fact that Girder does not support IrDA. After a bunch of tweaking with WinLIRC settings, it works! And with a plugin to Girder, now I have Girder controlling my remote actions.
