Looking USB Input Device

Hi Folks,

I'm looking for a new type controller for my system. I'm currently using an Alps touchpad into my PS2 port. Small, about 3" X 2". There are three buttons on the device but I haven't been able to find any driver that will allow me to program them.

What I'm looking for is something similar but with some programmable buttons in WinXP. USB and/or PS2 RF Wireless would be even better. Anybody seen anything like this around?

Peter

Look into using autohotkey with that touchpad. You can set up autohotkey to record key inputs to the system and then bind a "function" to that key press. The first link will take you to the main page. In the second link if you scroll down to the bottom of the page, it gives you an example of how to bind undefined keys. Hope this helps.

Uh Yea, that's helpful. Thanks.

But that leaves me with only one key to program, on my current touchpad, if I'm reading the tutorial correctly. I was thinking maybe a USB keypad with this program would give me all the options I need. What do you think?

I'm sorry. I thought that the touchpad had more buttons on it, but that you couldn't use them for anything. If you used a USB keypad in it's place, that would give you many more combinations. The learning curve for scripting is almost none. The forum has many examples and very useful solutions for most common tasks. I use it for automated tasks, like when a particular window appears it automatically closes it or presses a certain button. Very helpful when you don't have the time to learn VB or some other kind of useful language.

Oh, closing an orpaned window is a great idea. I have a couple of machines that do that now. Thanks for the suggestion. Once I get the USB keypad, I'll start playing around with hotkey.

Take care.
