Ideal Powermate configuration
I find it kind of hard to work because whenever you use the push and turn function, you always activate the push function also.
Currently i have it set for MediaCar as:
push( enter- pause/play/select)
rotate (volume up and down)
push and rotate ( up/down- navigate songs)
anybody have settings that they like that are better than this

Volume knob
I only bought mine as a cool volume knob. I hate reaching for a mouse or a keyboard, just to turn the song music up or down while driving, so the knob is perfect. BUT, is it USB 2.0? or 1? reason I ask is mine will NOT work on any cable longer than its own cable.
I have two USB ports in the dashboard, that plug into the motherboard, (about 1 metre of cable from plug to jack) and even tho other USB devices work thru these, the powermate will not, even if its using the same port either way, on the motherboard. (does that make sense?)
Seems to me that its really really fussy about cable length.
anyone know whats really going on?

I had a lot of problems with mine for a very long time. There are a couple of articles on this forum with pointers as to how to install it so it works. For the last three weeks mine has been recognized and functions right out of hybernation. Have you tried manually installing the driver through control panel\ system\device manager rather than letting it seek the driver itself? Does windows see the device when it boots but it doesn't work? Mine is setup so that it connects to an un-powered 1.1 hub on it's own cable, the hub is connected directly to the USB port on the pc case, about a six foot run of cable. Until I put the hub in line, the powermate was being continually lost on restore from hybernate. Since I put in the hub it has worked everytime. I can't tell you why but it is working now.
Peter
Oh Yea, I am using push as mute, push and rotate as next, previous and rotate as volume in Frodoplayer.

You guys having any problems using the "push and rotate" fuction? I have tried programming that to do a few different functions, next song, exit visualization etc, but i have got the single quick click, set to mute. So every time I use the push and rotate, when you finally let it go, it mutes as well! Very annoying. Anyone know what im doing wrong?
Now, Ive just got it set in winamp, like this, Volume up, volume down, and short click, start visualization, and long click, stop visualization (yeah, i love eye candy)

I've got one of these and have had no problems:
http://www.contourdesign.com/shuttle...ttlexpress.htm
Granted it doesn't look as cool as a powermate.
Got it setup in media car:
buttons: list, shuffle/repeat, next (with repeat), prev (with repeat), play/pause
jog dial: up, down, up repeat, down repeat, page up, page down
center dial: volume control

That looks nice. I'm tired of my powermate not working, plus I got it when they first came out and were only silver (looks like against my all black dash). Too bad htis one doesn't glow.

i got mine set up like
rotate = volume
click = enter
click+rotate = up/down arrows ( this lets me scroll through songs in media car as well as ZOOM in and out in iGuidance )
long click does nothing so far..i think its kind of annoying..maybe i can set it to do (ctrl+alt+delete) if i hold it for 10 seconds or something...

I called griffin last year, they said that new drivers that would solve the Click and Rotate bug would be available in a couple of months. I think we should all start calling and emailing them to see if we can't get the source code, a beta or SOMETHING that's an improvement from the current drivers.

I have Powermate, but I really don't like it that much.
Powermate is not as programable as I thought.
One question. How big is this? I did quick search, but didn't
see the size indication anywhere.

I changed mine today, after reading this and thinking a bit about it. I have forgotten totally about the mute (i mean do you really use it?) and have volume up, volume down, click, is "start winamp visualization" and long click "stop winamp visualization"
and these settings are GLOBAL I dont use it for anything else.
This means no matter what im doing, if i try to turn the volume down, it will go down, no matter what program is focussed.
Of course, you have to be focussed on winamp for the visualization to work.
When the push and click bug is fixed later, ill program them to scroll up and down the play list

It's about four and a half inches in diameter from what I remember.
