IRMAN v. Cheapo USB IR Receiver....differences?

People...I'm looking to purchase an IR Receiver to work with a steering-wheel remote. I know Girder can map commands to any remote keypress so my question is...do I have to shell out the $35 or so for an "IRMAN" IR Receiver or can I purchase one of the cheapo USB IR Receivers?

Will they function similarly and can Girder accept commands from one of the cheapo USB IR Receivers?

Thanks!

These are the types of "cheapo USB IrDA Receivers" I'm speaking of.

IRDA is a completely different beast than IR remote control signals. The IRDA receiver might work with some remotes (very few) but not nearly as well as the IRMan. $35 isn't that expensive.

First off - thanks for the link, it looks like it would definitely help.

Second, I already have the first version of the Remote Wonder and I've just gotten used to the layout, the second version just isn't my style. thanks for asking.
