Serial extension for Microtouch controller-Does a normal extension work here?

Well I'm finally getting around to permenately running all the computer wires in the camaro. The only problem I'm having now is the serial wire is not long enough to reach from the screen to the computer.

This serial connector has a plug that goes into it which comes from the molex connector's red/black wire (this is 5v wire isnt it?) Is this a different type of serial wire or will a regular serial extension work here? I don't wanna just go buy one and waste $.. Here is a picture of what im asking..

In theory, I would expect any standard extension with every wire connected up (some don't) pin to pin to work fine, though you would need to wire power alongside
