USB HUB problems????
anyone find if their going al usb for everything, that lots of devices require it NOT to be connected to hubs but straight into the computer? This presents a problem if most computers only have 2 ports....
I have a usb Keyboard/mouse(trackpoint),
usb nextel cable (charge and mobile internet),
USB gps mouse
usb wireless 802.11
usb Happaguage tv/radio unit
usb dvd external player.
my system is the HP e-pc 933mhz PIII unit (tiny plus dc-input) but only upgradable by usb ports.
the 802.11 requires computer only, will not work therough hub,
also the tv/radio unit is the same, will not work.
*both say to not to use a hub.
And My hub is externally powered.
any suggestions, maybe a better hub? mine is a cheap belkin 5 port hub (5v input unit). nothing pulls over the 500 ma rating on the hub either.

I've had the opposite problem.. a couple of my devices ONLY work through a hub.. I think my stupid motherboard's usb ports can't provide the needed current..
sorry I wish I could help you with your problem.

How do you know others have had this problem? That's pretty presumptuous of you.

well since my paperwork on my happague?#$ tv/radio usb unit says " dont use through a hub only on a actual computer usb port ", which is true it WONT work through the USB hub only on the computer port, and my USB 802.11 device also says "dont use on a USB hub, only on a dedicated computer USB port", which again is right it wont work on the hub only on the computer directly, and a while back I had a USB camara that also said the same thing and again was true.
So you are right , it was presumptuos of me to state others have had the problem, I assumed we ALL was working on roughly the same thang, but you are right ... ITS POSSIBLE IM THE ONLY ONE WITH THE SUPER ADVANCE SYSTEM HERE AND THE "ALL USB DEVICE CENTER AT THE HEART" OF MY SYSTEM....
I am very sorry for the statement.
CHUCK
hmmm.... ohh wait ... Isaid i know everyone has had the problem..... 'OR' IS IT ME? I guess i didnt say I know everyone had this problem after all because i used the (OR) in my statement....
btw: Im not trying to pick a fight here, but if your going to take things that people say to litterally here and thats going to be the only comments you have to make, then how are you helping here.

Actually, I was being sarcastic, which is my usual smart-assed dry-witted self. I certainly don't mean to offend, really.
I'll admit I'm a pussy and you'd probably kick my ***.
Sadly, I don't have an answer to your issue. You've already thought of and/or attempted the one suggestion I had: replace the USB hub.
I don't know your system. How many USB ports does your PC have?
Most (not all) motherboards have headers to connect additional USB ports. The USB ports that conenct to the headers can be found all over the place, like here: http://www.directron.com/usbfemaleada.html
My server has headers for an ungodly number of USB ports. Granted, that's not going into my truck, either.

That's not very Texas of you
chuckctv, sorry if I missed it in your posts, but did you actually plug those devices into your hub and try them? and also directly into the computer? From what I read, it sounded like you're just going off what the manuals say (and god only knows, a true geek doesn't consult the manuals unless he's looking for the warranty terms because he blew something up because he didn't read the manual . . . vicious cycle). I've had some success with USB devices that were supposedly supposed to be run directly from the computer.

i think the hub is the problem, the new 2.0 hub just came in today, but ill wait till the weekend to tear everything apart, plus I ordered a 5v regulator that produces 1.5 amp output, so ill redesign the hub\s power sorce then also. the hub seems to work fine with the 5v/1amp reg. only the keyboard/802.11/nextel(internet) power off the hub, everything else has its own power. the keyboard/trackpoint is only 50ma, the 802.11 unit is 100ma, and the nextel cable unit only pulls 40ma, total is not even .2amps total. so im sure even though its suppose to have a 2amp/5v input source and im only giving it a 1amp input source, that it would not matter until I reach or break the 1amp requirment. ohhh yea- the gps(usb) pulls 100ma (total equals 1 third of a AMP). but the 802.11 and the happague tv/radio system does not like the hub. (maybe a bandwidth problem), maybe I should get 2 hubs and split everything up, because im oput of ports right now for the external dvd player I have (self powered also).
my system only has 2 ports, and no add-on headers, not a standard motherboard, its a HP e-PC micro system, desktop unit which uses laptop components. only 10x9x3 case size. All add-ons must be USB, no internal upgrading (except, cdrom,hd,memory, cpu), but not add-on cards as such.
btw Darquepervert, Appology excepted, no harm done, i appologize for being sarcastic back also in my follow up... Just having fun with it... but didnt want to start some online feud either..\\\
Chuck
By the way, im on the road as we speak writing this post, the system is up, just needs the usb hub tweakin and a few other smalll things..
