ok heres the best idea i can offer, its a shifter from JC-Whitney ( I LOVE THIS PLACE )

Buy one of the shifter knobs on this page and replace the 3 leds with 3 small micro buttons, and the center top has a hole, use it to place the trackpoint (like on ibm laptops) then run the wires down the shaft, and before you place the shifter knob on tight get a medium size piece of heat-shrink that will go over the shifter-shaft so when you heat it it will shink around the small wires and not be seen and WA-LA

you have a shifter withtrackpoint on top and 3 small buttons for the mouse controls and using the normal mouse software set the middle button to do something specific.

what ya think???

ohh by theway- you may have to drill a small hole diagnally from the buttom (outside of the threads into the top for the wires, just line the hole up with it facing the dashboard side. and maybe if you get it low enough(the hole) get your heatshrink to cover it, (must use tiny wires and probably need to place a connector plug on the end so to be able to remove for future needs)
