Touchscreen Calibration Issue

Hi - newbie here. I've purchased an 8" touchscreen and USB controller and am having problems calibrating it. I've emailed them but haven't gotten a response so after doing a

I thought I'd ask.

Starting in the upper right hand corner of the screen, if I touch there, the pointer displays more or less directly under my fingertip but as I move diagonally (both down and toward the middle of the screen) the pointer moves progressively (seemingly exponentially) farther to the left and down. By the time I reach the exact middle of the screen, the pointer is all the way in the lower left hand corner and activates the Start menu.

The controller didn't come with any instructions so I plugged the cable in the way I thought it should go. Is it possible I plugged it in upside down? The reason I haven't tried turning it over is because I'm not sure if that would damage the controller or not.

Any advice is appreciated.

I think you can give it a try. I have a PS/2 5-Wire type touch screen, and have similar problem like yours. After I reverse the connection, it worked out just fine. You can also check their web site. They should have the pin assignment post on the web.

You need to do a 4 point calibration and then the 25 point. This will fix all your problems.

Eh...the problem is that when I do the 4 point calibration, I can't touch any of the points on the screen. For example, the first point is in the lower left of the screen. In order for the cursor to be anywhere near that point, I'm actually touching near dead center of the touchscreen. Regardless, I'm unable to ever have the calibration routine recognize that I touch that point so I can never complete the calibration. Vicious circle.

BTW, I flipped the connector without frying the board but got no better results.

I mounted the screen using duct tape around the very edges. I was careful not to go but 1/8" in. Still, is it possible that would cause the kind of problems I'm having?

Sounds like the touchscreen panel is bad.

Almost the same thing happened to my Lilliput.

Thats a common problem with the lilliputs.

There is a reset that clears any values on the TS.
try doing the reset first.
I have 2 that do the same thing.

4 point worked for me, 25 point however was too much and messed up me screen setting so a few goes with 4 point again and its now puuuuurfect!!

have you tried doing the 4 point calibration with disregard where the cursor is during the test?

I have but no matter where I touch on the screen, it doesn't detect it as touching the point it is asking me to. The screen beeps each time I touch it, so it is detecting the touch, just never calibrates.

try and pull the GPS and other things that might be conflicting, see if that's a possibility

Are you touching and holding. I know when I calibrated mine it wanted me to hold the spot for a few seconds. It never told me to touch and hold but after calibrating another screen that said touch and hold I figured that must be my issue. I am sure there where directions somewhere that would have told me this.

how can you tell? on my touch screen, the mouse cursor doesnt move during draw test nor during calibration. I cant tell at all where im poking, it just beeps, and when all is done I just hope it works, which it does like 80% of the time.

one last question, are you using a VGA/RCA converter? when I added that, I could run a smaller res than my screen could support. it would scroll the screen on my tiny touchscreen, and that messed up the mouse terribly.

could it be a resolution issue?

Hmmm....well it could be a resolution issue. I'm running 640X480, not your normal resolution due to the screen only supporting that (check my site for why I'm stuck with this if you're really interested).

Would that cause the problem I described?

Also, I'll try a touch and hold of the screen and also pull the GPS to make sure there are no conflicts.

I was hoping you could give me some information about the mechanics of the screen opening. the servo is a rotating device? slowly spins, or what is hte motion?

then how did you translate that into a force that rotates the screen itself?

also, I was wondering if you tried hooking up a different monitor, one that supports a higher resolution, and tried it again if it would work.

for example, pulling your 15 inch flatpanel or 17 inch CRT into the garage and plugging it into your computer. you wont be able to do a perfect calibration of course, but once you calibrate the touchscreen at 800 or 1024 resolution, you'll know if you have the same exponential increase in pointer response when dragging down and to the left.

or did touch and hold help?
