I'd love to see a Clarion CeNet version but I think I'm in the minority.

I have the brand new DEH-P980BT (with bluetooth obviously,) and if you have an IP-BUS interface to test out, I'd be more than happy to lend a hand...
although, I can interface with a bluetooth adapter on a carpc or laptop now! I bet your cable would have a better response time.

I think most aftermarket things will get started in August. Clarion is on the plans. Just need to roll out Pioneer and AiNEt first.

Will the M-BUS adapter work for now...?
This is terrific news! I can hardly wait for the AI-NET adapter. I was SO close to giving in and getting an iPod with one of the $100 adapters. I just kept asking myself, "Do I really want to buy the most expensive iPod out there and not be able to put ALL my MP3s on it?"
Question: Will the M-BUS adapter work on the AI-NET HU's? If so, what will be lost? From what I understand, just the ability to scroll folders. Will it still pull ID3 info from Winamp?
If it's just missing the ability to scroll folders, then I can justifty use of the M-BUS adapter until the AI-NET adapter arrives.

Not to go off topic but, perhaps an easier solution for aftermarket units is to emulate an iPod. Is the interface public domain? That would mean users would have to purchase the iPod control adapter for their stereo but it would also mean a single unit would work for Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, Clarion, and any other manufacturer that offers an iPod control adapter.
Of course...that doesn't help my situation since my Clarion head unit is pre-mp3 (let alone pre-iPod).

It would be valid approach. The adapter from serial -> RS232 or USB can be easily made. There is no problem making an iPod emulator on PC. But then it goes back to the price of the adapter + all mods to it.

It won't work.
Different adaptor/connection, and language.

Any plans to emulate AiNet HUs?

jbors,
as far as I got, the first AiNet thingy will be of the same kind as existing M-Bus one - to emulate CD Changer.
Do you have any plans for some extended functionality?
i.e. ability to emulate HU and control PXA-H701 with carputer, for instance?
I'm very interested in this (if not to say that's a key issue for my CarPC reqs so far - existing soundcards still are no rival to PXA, for my understanding )
Thanks,
Dmitry

At first there will be CD changer emulation and then we'll see.
AiNet is pretty rich, so we'll see where we get.

Optimistic
jbors,
Just like to say that I appriciate all of the work you have put into M-Bus, and IP-Bus. I'm an XBox modder and like to have seamless integration in my projects. I have chosen a carputer as my next project, partly due to the work that you are doing. Perhaps IP-Bus will have the bugs worked out before I return from Iraq.
Till then I'll be watchin'
