Logitech's cam are USB1.1 compliant, that's really too slow for a decent image, USB2.0 is ok : 640*480 @ 30 ips.
The idea behind using a webcam is probably to manipulate the video tream : crop it to match the rear glass ratio while driving, full res when reverse, Adjust brightness, contrast, shutter, exposure in real time. Almost all webcams cam mirror the image in hardware, and if not, well, there are tools like videocapx that can do it live. The probleme is not many webcam use overlay.
The perfect solution however is a regular cam, and a video card with Video-in. Wire the cam both to AV-in of the screen and to video-in.
With video-in, your carputer can deal with video, and if your pc is off, the video's always available thru its direct link to the screen
