My ebrake handle isnt actually touching the powermate. Theres about 3-4 mm of clearance. I can rest my hand on top of the ebrake and rotate/click the powermate with ease. I removed the rubber on the bottom of the powermate, and mounted it using 3m mounting tape.

I'm almost done with fitting a holder for my powermate. I had planned to leave the top edge intact and mold the console around it, but now I'm going to just trim the edges flush, although that might look weird with two high and two low sections. But still better than the alternative.

It's made entirely of ABS, and the inside is sized 2.25", slightly larger than the base, so the LED light will still be visible somewhat. I like that as a visual cue for master volume level. I also have an insert fabricated so the powermate will sit high, but the spacer can be flipped over, and the powermate will slip inside and be flush with the top of the holder if I don't want to use it, or have a mechanic play with it when I have my car worked on.

How do you reach them with the e-brake handle like that? Long fingers I guess. . .

Sivart321, it looks like you have a slimmer aftermarket handle to help with access? And is your powermate still in stock form underneath the console? Just curious if you simply glued it from underneath and then put the knob back on.

The placement is actually rather convinient, not long fingers needed. It is not as easy to push and spin as it was before, but I rarely did that anyhow. Pressing, and turning works just fine. I understand where you are coming from. I did not think it would work there either until I tried it out myself.

As far as installing it, I drilled a 1.5" hole with a hole saw, pulled the knob off, stuck the powermate in from behind, put the knob back on. No glue was needed as the center console ends just behind the plastic panel and supports the back of the powermate just right. I had to remove the clear rubber bottom to make it fit, but had no need for it anyway.

Now i Just have to figure out why the powermate fails to work about 50% of the time. Sometimes when you boot it works, sometimes it doesnt. Plugging it back in doesnt work either. Anyone have a clue? it really peeves me off to have to reboot all the damn time.

Do you have the newest drivers? Is it plugged into a hub? Is the hub powered? The powermate requires alot of juice for it to work nicely. I would put it on its own USB cable if possible, with an active extension. Or put it on a hub, with the hub connected to power AND with an active extension cable. I have found non-active extensions do not work properly with most devices.

I feel your pain! I installed some drivers for a cheap USB sound card. Afterwards, my powermate behaved just like yours, as did my wireless mouse. A couple of weeks ago, I formatted my hard drive because the problem got to the point my touchscreen was effected, too (plus I had Win2k). I installed XP and reinstalled most of my software and now I'm back to 100% reliable operation again! It probably would be a good idea to follow the advice from sivart321 and go a step further by updating ALL your USB drivers by allowing the software to check for updates automatically on MS's site.

Yes I still have to update my powermate driver, but the powermate is connected to its own, USB 2 port on the motherboard, no hub.
Funny thing is, this started happening sort of about the same time, I updated my USB audigy sound card's drivers

That's certainly an amazing coincidence that sound cards drivers on two different computers cause the identical fault. If you're running XP you can do a "restore to XXXX" where XP basically uninstalls the drivers and resets the computer to the way it was before they were installed...

I was thinking of doing something similar with my powermate, did that knob that you used just so happen to have the correct knotches? I know the semi-circle knotch is pretty standard for a lot of knobs, but just curious, since that knob you chose looks to fit exactly in the area that I need.

I have the same problem. it make me so mad i buy a hub and i powered it and the sucker some times work and some times not i can't figure out whats the problem.

plz help
