Fellowes Trackball handheld mouse is cool
Hey guys, just gettin ready to install my stuff, been collection all the I/O's for a couple weeks now... This is the mouse I ended up with... so far its really nice, light, small (palm size), and seems to work very ergonomically. If it was wireless it'd be cooler, but for the price its all I need.... just thought I'd share, tho it may be a repost, I didn't see it come up in the tho.

It's what I use in my car. Much easier than a lot of other options, and cheaper than the fancy gyration setups. however, be prepared for not-so-great performance, since the bearings and sensors that the trackball rides on are very small so it gets dirty almost instantly and doesn't roll real smooth... but it still works fine, and it's well worth the price.

I dump a touch pad mouse and get 2 of those for both of my setup. Work perfect if you drive stick. Cost me 10 bucks each.

This is what I've been using. I could go without the pointy laser front end but besides that this thing is phenominal. Batteries last a LONG time, no connection issues like the targus handheld presentation trackball and it has a trigger left click for clicking and moving a map, VERY useful.
It can be found here http://www.iogear.com/main.php?loc=product&Item=GME321R

There is a wireless version of this one too. That is what I have...it is a little bigger but it works nice and is rechargable, while i'm not using it, it sits in the glove compartment plugged in to its base station and it recharges straight from usb power. Another cool feature is that it has an on off switch so you can turn it off while you are not using it and it won't drain the batteries. This is the one:

I got mine off ebay for about 30 USD. if you go to my project worklog link on my signature, there is a photo where I have it in my hand if you want to get an idea of the size.
Cheers!

How big is it without the casing? I'm interesting in integrating one of these into something else.

I've been using one of those for the past year. However, it recently died, making me sad. I think I'll order one of those microtracs now.

Telos, after seeing Willy's post I ordered one of those wireless units and installed it yesterday. It does not have the range that the Iogear has but let's be honest, it's in a vehicle and definitely suits the needs. One of the things that it had that I really liked over the Iogear is a power switch on the handheld unit. Turning it on/off during use, during hibernation, etc. has no affect, it will not lose communication, it just works. I definitely give it a thumbs up over the Iogear and it is now my main device.
Another thing that is nice about it is that it is rechargeable as it comes with 2 rechargeable batteries. You plug it in from the plug on the receiver base and it charges bia the USB port. Since it has a power switch I don't really think it's that important as 2 AA batteries will last a pretty long time but nonetheless, they thought of everything.
BTW, I ordered it from the link Willy provided and they got it out delivered to me real quick.

Hey, Troy.....i'm glad you like it! It has worked great for me for about 2 months or so. It's a good little piece of hardware! One cool thing that I've noticed is that, apparently, the "ocassional" charging of whenever the car is running is enough to keep it charged all the time which was an initial concern for me
