Everything else is up to your fantasy...

Sure you could use them, but not all would be useful - most of those gadgets are like speaker systems (obviously don't need), fm transmitters (but it'd be easier to just use one that takes a stereo jack, or one designed for PC use), etc. I'm not saying there aren't any good uses out there, I'm just not seeing it so I was curious what you had in mind?

well there are those kits that integrate with your stock amp. they have stock button capability and track text.

so we can have a car pc that also output to a stock amp/headunit.

I found this site whiile I was looking for something else. These guys are messing around with the Ipod interface protocols; there's connector pinouts, software for snooping and emulating the serial commands and more:

I browsed over this thread and was wondering if any new developments have come up.

I found an integration module that blends standard ipod functions into my factory head unit quite well. I can control the ipod and see its display right on my navigation head units screen. Just waht i wanted.

However, I want to loose the ipod. I would like to unplug it and replace it with a PC that has MUCH larger storage capacity in its place. For now, the PC will strictly serve up music. In the future it may also serve as a Bluetooth phone interface over the stereo system.

To accomplish my goal , I would need some sort of hardware that will replicate the standard ipod side dock and terminate into a USB connector to the PC. I'll also need software on the PC to do the emulation.

Anyone have a lead?

Jbors,

The Car2PC adapter would be perfect for my application. BUT unfortunately I have a CAN-B based navigation head unit with built in 6 disc changer. I have no CD changer port on my radio. DRATS, NOT COMPATIBLE!

Any interest in developing something to work with these radios? A large number of consumers now have them...
