have you checked the mouse control built in the chip is active ?

I have a ps2 to usb keyboard and a ps2 keyboard and mouse to usb adapter, both use the same chip, but even adding the wiring to the other one to bring it up to mouse and keyboard wont work as it wont see amouse, seems its in the firmware etc and activated at production time.

cy7c63723 on both.

As for smaller track balls, the smallest I've seen is a 'Mouse Pen' that I found several years ago at a Big Lots store, which has a ~1/4" ball, and the controller section in the 'pen'. You could either use like a pen on a mouse pad, or flip it over and use it as a trackball.

man, I saw one of those a LONG time ago, but have never seen one since. maybe I should look for one...

thanks for the tip Lez. I have not even checked it yet. im just remaining hopeful. heh. if the mouse controller is not active, it wqont be much of a big deal because I will just use a usb hub,. the real digger will be if the other "keys" are not active. if they programmed it with none of the other pin s active, it will be a real bummer. there is no way I could solder a NEW one on. but hey, maybe these things are reprogrammable? I havent had time to check out the programming software for these things..

any updates?

I've just changed cars and the old car pc was a big item in the old car, I want it smaller in this car so the full size keyboard is out!

I got a ps2 glidepoint, I think its alps not sure, but it wont work on usb and is ps2 only.
