Help on Ibus needed (BMW)

I have E46 and found this IBUS/USB interface. My carputer is running RR, so I want to use the MFL on the steering wheel to control the carputer.

I do NOT have any BMW radio, headunit or CD-Changer. So what I have is a normal stock radio and the carputer. I bought a MFL steering wheel which comes with the buttons and some cabels.

Now the important question: Will this work?
I am not sure whether a BMW headunit is needed or not? I do not know if the MFL keys need to be connected to a BMW headunit or if they are "just" connected to the bus..
In addition I wonder if they will work as they could not communicate with any BMWheadunit.

Does anybody know?

If you have the IBUS cable running around the car, which you should have then you will need to hook up to that.

Otherwise I have heard it rumored (and I'm looking into this as well) that you can just connect a 10K or 100K resistor somewhere between the IBUS and the 12V. Check out the yahoo group hack the IBUS.

update, just tried connecting a 10k resistor across 12v and IBUS and now steering wheel buttons can be picked by the IBUS analyser. The steering wheel is not even in the car.
