Is this considered to be a "Slot-in" drive? or the "mac style" drive are called slot-in?

I'm not really familiar with the term "slot-in". It's a slim style cd/dvd rom drive, used in slim line towers, laptops, etc. It's not a slot load (if that's what you're referring to) for sure as it has a tray that ejects outwards...

This doesn't seem to be getting an less confusing.
To go from this;
do I have to use this:
And then one of these;
To me it appears that one or all of those adapters will work directly without the need of the first (green) adapter?? Will those 3 pictured together also provide the needed 5V for the slim drive from that USB connector? This set-up's got to be easier that what it's starting to appear like. Perhaps I got off to the wrong start by using the term "slot drive" since that could refer to more than one type. I should have maintained the term "Slim drive". Any thought's on how to resolve?

Why in hell you want to go 50 pin connector to IDE to USB when one of the cheap case on ebay (around $17) have a PCB that goes 50 pin to USB already?
Just to clear all you questions (in case you didn't read my first post)
Do not use a IDE adapter go with the enclosure (usb from ebay or firewire/usb from mp3car)
Thanatos.
Edit:
pics
here is the connector that comes with the enclosure

Enclosure front:
In this last pic you see the PCB in two parts, that is becouse the working one is in the car and this got burned

Actually I really like that solution and would love something as simple as that.
Now, how do I semi flush-mount the drive to an ABS plastic face piece that will be attached to my centre consol from behind. It appears from that pic that drive sits all the way in with the small lip of the drive flush against the outside edge of the enclosure - right?

Yup. It is flush. Most enclosures do this. The one I was going to use was perfectly flush with the extrernal enclosure.
Makes it easy to fabricate it in.

I take it that this is the most common method of connectivity and method of mounting a slim drive to a console faceplate? Do all of these slim drive enclosures have the same internals? IE, do I have to match manufacturer of the case to that of slim drive?

Back in the days we used to work with adapters, but since the price of the enclosure are so cheap (and you don't need to do all this convesions) I say is the most common know.
All you need to know about the PCB in the enclosure is that it work with the JAE50 so get a CD/DVD drive that use for internface.

There was a place that have two versions, black and silver... being the only deference between the two, the location of the USB and power barrel (silver has it on the side and balck as you see is on the back)

OK, I'm sold on the case idea. This is really going to not impress people but I guess there may be a missuse in terminology. The slim slot drive I'm intending to use is the the non tray type.
I'm not even sure if there's even a proper term to differentiate this tray type;
From this non-tray type:
I've already seen those cases on ebay that thanatos106 linked to, which are the same as the first pic - TRAY TYPE. Perhaps this is a mute question, but aren't these case dimensions different between the tray and non-tray type slot load units? If appears that they LOOK the same size but hate to order and find out there are subtle differences that set them apart. I imagine it should be a straight forward answer to these questions.
I'll re-iterate, are those slot load cases shown in thanatos106's link good for only the tray type as indicated in the ebay pics or are they the same size/fit/match for the non tray type as as shown in the pic above? Thanks,
John

that case is just a case, it doesnt have a drive in it. you can put any type of slim drive wether it be slot load or tray load.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, outstanding!!!!! ty A T E, much appreciated. Now I can go shopping. I find it very strange of the pricing differential between the mp3car/digitalww's and what's on ebay. $75 or $79 compared to $12 to $18 ....... big gap there??? I'd prefer to support either store even if it were $10 or $15 more but this disparity leads me in one direction. Many thanks "AllThingsEnd", and to all those who helped me sort this out.
John
On to part II - sourcing external remote USB's to mount in same mounting plate as for the slim drive.
