Hey thanks for that - I kind of figured that. After seeing your glovebox set-up it's given me the same idea as well since your center console and glovebox have a lot of similarities to mine.

Thanks again.

I hope it's not too late to ask.
I bought the panasonic slim drive slot load CD/DVD drive with usb enclosure about a year ago.
http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.c..._1915_11866248
I only played with it right after I installed it that time. Until recently, I tried to use it. I found the drive no longer working. I found there is USB error in Device manager. I plug and unplug the USB, the computer responds (New hardware found), but it just doesn't show the drive in window explorer.
It's been so long, I forgot if the drive came with any drivers.
Do you guys remember?

Typically the computer shouldn't need drivers for a cdrom drive, even if plugged in via usb. Are you positive it's getting enough power? I had to use a powered hub and power the slim cdrom for mine to work properly.

I have a 5v 6A regulator to feed the CD drive and the powered USB hub.
Also, I've tried bypassing the usb hub plugging into my laptop directly.
Do you recall if the drive or the enclosure came with any CDs?

Mine didn't need any drivers either. Working well on the bench with the barrel plug power cord connected to the 5V rail of my PSU. The usb is routed through a powered usb hub.

I'm not even sure if there's even a proper term to differentiate this tray type;
I've already seen those cases on ebay that thanatos106 linked to, which are the same as the first pic - TRAY TYPE. Perhaps this is a mute question, but aren't these case dimensions different between the tray and non-tray type slot load units? If appears that they LOOK the same size but hate to order and find out there are subtle differences that set them apart. I imagine it should be a straight forward answer to these questions.
I'll re-iterate, are those slot load cases shown in thanatos106's link good for only the tray type as indicated in the ebay pics or are they the same size/fit/match for the non tray type as as shown in the pic above? Thanks,
John
This is exactly the same one I bought in the picture. I've been reading a lot about similar threads on how to connect a Slim drive DVD burner and I think this is one of the best thread where all of you gave a different opinion.
Thanks a Lot.

I believe the dimensions are the same...I ordered an external case for a slimline CD drive, and my slot-load drive fit perfectly.

Short Update :)

My unit is still working fine although I did have a few snags for a while. The constant plugging in and removing of different USB devices (including external hard drives apparently confused things and I just ended up uninstalling all of the USB drivers and then rebooting. All of the necessary drivers came back and my slotload was good to go. I don't require the USB to go through a powered USB hub either but then again, as I mentioned earlier, the 5V barrel plug is connected directly to my 5V rail.
