What happened Naesstrom? Did you get a framegrabber?

I am curious about the cpu-load. Does it really work?! In my carpc (MII12000) I cannot even get 100% smooth operation out of powerDVD. With an ordenary webcam operation is c*rp, and then I cannot do anything else at the same time.

I've designed a pcb to switch in AV with steering wheel buttons instead. (no recording...)

BTW. If someone's got an idee of where to install my camera. I'd prefer to make the hole where there is acctually room behind :-)

you could stick it into the bumper.
PS: please replace the ugly lights :| - believe me or not, but you've got a higher risk getting into an accident if you upset the BMW fairy

any new cameras out yet?
is this any good?:

Which do you prefer

Since I have not tried the camera on the car yet (thanks for your input) I do not dare recommend one, but I use this:

That perticular model is not available anymore, I think that its been impreved because there are other that look the same around.

Night vision NTSC Camera, 0 Lux, 110 degrees. Mirrored image

BTW. Fairy or not. I want the camera beause once I reversed into a bicycle with a 10-year-old on. He came from the side at the same time as I started to move. No speed, but it knocked him off balance. No harm done, but it was scary. Aspecially since I only heard him and then stopped. I still could not see him. He was behind below waisteline...

I bought it on ebay. In fact I bought two so you can get the other if you want. Send private mail.

I just made a search on ebay (rear view camera night vision) and found this

It looks exactly the same as mine.

But as I said. I've tried it in my flat but not on my car. It has a handly mounting feature. It can be tiped and mounted at a (small) angle

The pylons show how much area I gained by putting it inside.

When the software is all done, the servo will allow me about ~ 300 degrees of view.

Nice camera setup you have there. Can we see a close-up of the camera mounter, etc. I'm really digging that placement.

Regards..

It does doesn't it :-)

My IBus thingie will pickup IBus message "going in/out of reverse" as well as "someone is swithing sideview mirror selector switch" etc and generate the AV enable input on my LCD panel.

So no, you do not need it. You can do that your self in hardware and connect to reverse light. But you cannot use any original buttons then like I do on the youtube.

Note. It is not the original BMW LCD in the Bordmonitor. It is a CID 650

The IBus thingie

cool.
but i don't really need to use the window switch option.. where do you connect the reverse light wire? to camera's power cable? and then it should automatically come up on the screen if the camera gets the power? i've got xenarc 700tsv monitor.
btw, you monitor looks kick *** in the stock interior! (black knobs and the lines - did you re-make the panel?)

Thanks!

(I took the standard BMW navigation monitor and fitted a CID 650 inside and a DVD. Very simple and straight forward :-))

I have the camera powered on at all times. I mean when USB has power. This to speed it up as it needs warming up. And in the winter it might keep the snow off it :-)

I do not know the interface of Xenarc nor if your rear light is active 12V or GND. You have to check that out in your car and I suggest you use a relay. I would not connect it directly without checking that the Zenarc can handle the noisy car supply. Maybe it does.

My CID 650 has two inputs. "Ignition" and "AV2 on". Both active high. When I want to have PC only "ignition" is high and when I have rearviewcamera I have both high.

This one?
It looks just like mine with the following exceptions:

- is the picture mirrored? It need to be.
- mine is 110 degrees and if I recall the resolution is less.

Highslide JS
This is a very good picture at night.

My camera feels a bit lowres, and a bit easy to blind. If you are happy with yours I think I will replace mine. It seems like your is the never improved model.

The brackets are there so that you can mount the camera at an angle. You do not want to do that. It will make the lens stand out to much, and you will have to mount it on a plastic panel or it will damage the steel. The brackets are also difficult to set straight to get a stable and tight fix ont the nut. I am trying to find some more rubber washers for a tidier (rust proof) assembly.

The camera is a bit difficult to get horizontal.

this one

i thought they were all the same and this one was just overpriced but looking at the specs there are some differences.

i would think rubber o rings would do the job for mounting.
