Basic Winamp Remotes Available--Been away for a while

I've been away for a while and wondered what are some the BASIC computer remotes that I can use for Winamp on Windows XP.

I've come up with IRMAN ($35). But I also found these at tekgems.com:

Creative Labs ($7): http://tekgems.com/Products/tg-cimr100.htm

Generic ($5): http://tekgems.com/Products/tg-pbr.htm

Streetmapz ($40): http://www.streamzap.com/products/pcremote/index.php

I would like the least expensive one the would still work for Winamp.

Thanks for the input.

I like the Creative Labs one...it looks just dandy. If it won't support winamp out of the box for some reason, just get Girder and map the key functions to those of WinAmp.

Thanks.

In looking around further, I've remembered that I have a broken JVC vcr / remote. The tape mechanism broke but the remote still worked. Can I salvage the parts and hook it to my pc somehow?

I also have spare serial cables (or serial mouse) laying around.

After searching further....

I found schematics for the DIY ir receiver. My question now is that if I wanted to DIY and I already have a matching remote and receiver from the same JVC vcr...then would the vcr board have the other parts that I need?

Voltage regulator, resistor, etc...?

I figured it out. The IR sensor from the vcr is a Sharp module. For whatever reason, I couldn't get it to work. Maybe I damaged it removing it from the VCR.

Went to Radio Shack and picked up another sensor and wired up a receiver module. Using Winlirc...it works well with a Toshiba remote and Winamp 5.

I haven't yet but I'm seriously considering buying it. Changing folders at 75 mph is kinda dangerous .

u mentioned least expensive, here goes :
1) built this on your own, http://lnx.manoweb.com/lirc/?partTyp...e=introduction
2) use an old remote
3) u'll need winlirc & girder 3.3 c/w winamp plugin
Thats all.

hohenyi, that is the option I went with. I just didn't need the girder program. Winlirc w/ Winamp plugin was enough. Works great. I did have to put Winlirc in the startup menu so that it would load automatically. Without that, Winamp gives an error when it starts up.

I had a few remotes. The Toshiba remote works well. The JVC remotes responded, but couldn't keep a good signal...according to winlirc.

One question, will Girder allow me to choose specific track numbers?

1) U just need to learn a remote with winlirc, safe it to a .cfg file it does not matter if the analyze failed, girder still can received the code when u press a button on the remote.
2) Track number = It does not have this (girder 3.3) will u be happy with the following winamp (ver 5.2) command:-
a) Jump to file (if u got a playlist loaded a dialog box will pop up and u can use the up & down arrow to scroll it)
b) Start of list
c) End of List
d) 10 track back
e) 10 track foward
girder 3.3 have media classic player plugin too and http://www.promixis.com/downloads.ph...er&lucCode=800

if your cellphone has bluetooth, and you already have a bt dongle in the car there are a few apps that control winamp via bt. Cheapest route if you already have the gear.
