Just got it today!!! It looks real good, its got a nice heavy feel to it and it really feels as it should cost a lot more!
Im very happy with this purchase, looks like a quality investment.

I'm just putting together my system, would this allow me to control the PC without a touchscreen effectively?

That depends very much on the front end software you want to use. For ours, it works great, because it was designed for rotary controllers from the very beginning. For software that is built around touch screen, it may not work at all or it could be very difficult.

I have started on a new front end that will have spacenavigator support in it.

Did you happen to measure the device with the base removed?

Thanks for the great writeup.
The only thing that was tricky was removing the power cable out of the base (I'm not using the base). I just gently pried up the rubber wire strains and then pulled it inwards. Once I got it free, it was easy to pull outwards. If you orient the connector sideways, it fits through the hole.
Don't know about getting everything to work software wise on linux, but this is going to be one of the easiest installs I've ever done. It's nice that it's easy for once

Yea, i was very pleased at how it is assembled, because it will make integrating in to anything pretty easy.
As for LEDs and measurements, I havent changed nor taken any. As soon as I get the opportunity to install it (space is kinda limited in a CRX) I will post up my measurements though. I would change the LEDs, because thats the kind of think I love to do, but since theyre already blue, i have no need...

Kind of late reply but since everyone is talking about the SN... does anyone happen to know how many amps or watts this thing uses? (Assuming the voltage is 5v since its using usb)
Thanks!
(I saw someone asking about embedding it at one point as well, heres what mine looks like so far, will be taking over a cup holder in between the seats)

Attachment 45018
The USB spec is 5v, and no more than 500ma per device. I'm sure it uses FAR less than that for a little logic, and a couple LED's.

I hope it's not too late to dig up this thread. I am curious what the overall height is without the base, like it's mounted there in the most recent picture.

Just to second the last request can I also ask for measurements of the height without the base (from the top of the stick to the bottom of the black ring with '3dconnexions' on it)..
I want to get one but I'm not sure if it will be too tall for where I need to place it.
Cheers!

In the hope that it will help someone else here is the measurements for the height spacenavigator from the bottom of the black rim to the very top of the domed handle.
I bit the bullet and just ordered one since I couldn't find the information anywhere
3.4 ~ 3.5 cm
