I just ordered the benz one... it's like $52 & the center cap is another $5....
I think it's the best looking out of all of them... I have no idea of fit yet though... I'm going to order this control too & see what happens when I get everything... I'm sure it won't fit stock, but I should be able to make it fit, I'm sure that bmw one should also be able to be made to fit, just fill it with epoxy....

that billet knob looks kinda cool, but I kinda wanted that factory look that all these knobs don't really have, I guess if you had a bunch of other billet going on in the car anyway....
I got my space navigator today... I'm going to play with both these setups & see which one makes it into the car...., this Haptic Encoder could alsobe interesting as just an add on as-is too, but I still think it'd make an awsome total solution if I add an up/down/left/right to it....

yeah, those knobs def look more factory... I could probably get these straight from gm.... I'll look into them too.... there a bit small as a main control, but then again, maybe not.... guess it depends how much space you have to work with... now that I'm sitting here looking at my caddy dash, I think these would work as a direct replacement on my climate control knob too.... hmmm, these could have some posibilities, thanks

Those are nice knobs Scott. Good find. I might go that route since they kind of match my mazda knobs.

I do 3D design work and have access to several machine shops that do good work for a fair price. How about some knobs like the attached ones? I can basically make any design you want. Initial pieces would be machined from plastic or metal and later units could be cast or injection molded. The attached files are quick renderings of a 5 and 7 flute knob modeled like the BMW and Benz units. They are rendered as plastic with a rubberized coating like the VW stuff.

Same thing, but shiny so you can see the flutes better.

I'll say this much, the rubberized coating like is on the VW dashes is absoutely horrid. It looks good for a while, but as time goes on and it's touched, scratched, etc....it starts to look absolutely trashey...
believe me....we took apart our entire subdash and sanded it down and had it painted flat black....keep in mind that we show this car on a national level...so we're super careful with the interior...and it still got to a point where we hated to show the car because of how it wore.

that is very cool. I'm not a big fan of the origina design from the benz but i'm sure that this could be hashed out into a very nice looking knob.

.
Yeah, tell me about it. I had an 02 GTI and every piece that was coated in that stuff pealed and the dealer had to replace them.
The stuff that would actually be used for the injection molded parts is a mix of regular plastic and a rubber polymer. It's not really rubber, but it feels like it. That way, the part can't peel or anything like that. I don't know of any thing on the market that is made of this stuff other than some fancy fishing equipment (knobs for reels). There's always a standard EVA that would give the knob some "bounce" yet still feel pretty rigid. We'll need to get a few made and see how they work. I actually called the rapid prototyper this afternoon and they can make a few of these with my solid models and we can test them in real life.
I just need to get a car pc installed in my car
