The device uses the FTDI chip set and there are Mac drivers available from FTDI so it's very much possible on the driver level. The Haptic encoder is a TTL serial device and the FTDI chip converts that to USB. We would have to figure out a way to get you a customize version of the driver for the Mac because we don't use the standard FTDI drivers. Also, all of the documentation and example programs are for the PC.

Looks like the input device I've been waiting for
Is there a price for shipping to the UK from the mp3car shop I don't seem to be able to select it.
Thanks

Since I didn't know the knob would be included, I went ahead and machined one out of aluminum. I have attached a picture of it along with the cheap radio shack enclosure I mounted the encoder and USB adapter board in for testing.
More info to come.

That is a very sweet looking knob, and would match my interior perfectly. Any chance of machining another one and shipping it to me, for a price, of course?

Wow, good thread, glad I found it. I have been working with Haptic controllers for about 5 years now, and I am really glad to see some people out there excited about it. I am a big supporter of this technology and feel that it is SO much safer than using the touchscreen. If the controller feedback is applied correctly to the application, the driver eventually learns where he is in the app simply by the way the controller feels, it's a great concept that was pretty much killed by the terrible user interface provided by BMW in it's initial release of iDrive (I have heard that they improved later versions but I have not been fortuneate enough to try it). I hope to read some successful stories on this thread in the future for all thos DYI'rs out there.

Should this product even be considered by a Noob without programing experience?

Nobody has built support for it in any of the major front ends so it's not going to do anything for you unless you can program for it yourself. I haven't even gotten around to coding it into my FE yet even though it won't take much work...

Why hasn't support appeared for this product in any front ends yet? Seems like this would be a major advantage for a front end to have...I'm especially surprised there's no support for it in Streetdeck.

I wish I knew how to do anything with it but don't know anything about programming something for it.... I'm really anxious to play with & use this, but I myself can't do a damn thing with it right now, so I put it kinda on the back burner, figured if something gets developed then I'll pay a little more for it , but be able to do something with it too
how much would be involved in paying for an app, I mean I guess the initial idea of giving it away to front end writers hasn't sparked the development, so maybe if it's developed in house & sold as a package with software?? don't know the feasibility of that & if it's a good financial investment though for mp3car?

Maybe it's an "upcoming feature" for a SD release...

I've been trying to play a little with the one I have sitting on my desk. But I'm having some problems since I'm only famliliar with vb6. I tried to register the dll's that I got with the unit but I cant register them.
Does anyone have an idea about where to point me to get started with this in vb6?
I know it can be done in C# but my frontend is programmed in vb6 so I'd like to integrate it there.
Cheers
Borte

What I would really like to see is some basic SD support for this. Even as simple as making one direction do one thing (forward songs?), the other direction do another (jump back in songs?) and clicking it a third (pause/play, maybe)
Anyone have any luck doing basic things with this?

I have one of these devices on order. I am hoping that by the time I have fashioned a suitable cradle and aesthetically perfected the 'look' of this device in my car project..... there will be an FE application that my carPC will be able to use it in.
How is this coming along guys ?

Coming along nicely..
So far I've been able to read and configure the device from vb6. I was hoping i would be able to build a dll that could be used to talk to RoadRunner for you guys.
