use psp as remote for winamp

i am starting work on version 2 of my car computer and one of the biggest problems i found with version 1 was that when a passenger tried to pick a song their finger bounced around and they usually picked the wrong song hehe. so i figured out a cool way to turn the psp into a sort of remote for picking songs and such.

browseamp is a cool little plug-in for winamp that lets you browse a music folder, play songs, etc. from any web browser. so i made a psp friendly skin (attached below) and it works great. im not sure if anyone else would like this idea but i searched around and didnt find anything like it, so maybe someone else could find it useful.

i only added basic controls, which is about all you need really, and there are a few things i would like to fix/change with it but it works fine and looks a lot better than the standard skin.

Kick ***, I'll have to try this out this weekend

Oh, do you have any tricks for getting a web browser on a PSP? I don't want to update my firmware, so I'm running this Japanese web browser that I found a year ago. Works great on 1.5 firmware, I just can't understand what the built in text says (japanese).

I don't want to update otherwise I can't run my homebrew apps. Just wondering what you're running on yours

im using the psp web browser

you could use devhook, which is a program that emulates other firmware versions while still running on version 1.5. it is pretty cool. i used it a lot before i upgraded (not sure why i did that). but they just came out with devhook 0.51 which emulates the new firmware version 3.01 which is really cool.

Hows the PSP connecting to the puter? Wireless? I would have to get a wireless card or is it USB?

That's nice, I'll have to try that out when I get my carpc up and runnin'. Also SnyperBob, you should google dark alex's custom firmware for the psp. 3.10 OEA2 is the latest, It gives you all the functionality of sony's original firmware and the ability to run homebrew and isos from your memory card.

the way i have it set up now is the psp connects to my home network through a wireless router. my hope is that i can get it set up with an ad-hoc connection using my usb wifi card. like this. i havent tried it that way yet but might do so tonight. if not ill just put a little wireless router in the car, no big.

so yeah you just get your psp connected to your network however you want. then you install browseamp. it goes in the winamp plug-in folder automatically. the good thing about it is that it runs automatically when you open winamp, so you dont have to set it up each time or anything. then you go into the plug-in folder and rename the 'base' folder 'base2' or something incase you want to go back to the standard skin. 'base' is where the skin files are stored. then you put the files from my skin into the 'base' folder.

so now go to your psp web browser and go to http://192.168.0.1:8080. or you could pick another port that the browseamp server runs on, but 8080 is default. and thats it. it loads up the skin and you can send commands to winamp. easy.

Awesome! I guess I'll be able to do this from my mobile phone too (Nokia N80) as that has Wifi. It would be great to get this working in ad-hoc mode too, can't see it being a problem.

you can also do a "remote connection" into your PC from the PSP. Google psphacking101 ep6 (Video for a basic walk through)
