How to: Tether your iPhone to your Mac or PC via USB
Thanks to member Mazdachuck, who p osted it in this thread, for this information.
PdaNet is definitely the way to go (as a couple of posters have suggested). Here's how to get it all working:
Step 1
Follow this guide to Jailbreak your phone: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1881
Step 2
Launch Cydia and search for "PdaNet" and install it on your iPhone
Step 3
Create an ad-hoc network on your PC/Mac using this guide: http://www.junefabrics.com/iphone/faq.php#wifipc
Step 4
Join your newly created ad-hoc network with your iPhone
Step 5
Browse the web with your Carputer
I used this exact process (with a few Google searching in between) yesterday and it works great. PdaNet now works with Wifi (Apple/PC) and USB (PC) tethering.
happy browsing!

The steps listed are how to tether iPhone using wifi, not usb. To connect via usb, you have to install pdanet desktop http://www.junefabrics.com/desktop/ and have iTunes running in the background.

It currently wont show up as anything but data usage, but if ATT thinks that you are using it as a modem they will slap you with huge fees. There is no current tethering plan for the iphone.

For those who used this wifi method, how's the battery life on the iphone?
I heard that even when the phone is plugged to a wall charger, the power draw would still suck your battery.
Anyone using usb here?

WiFi, 3G and GPS is the three things that realy draw power from a device, and I clearly see a problem with this. I have not checked, but I would think that the iPhone draws more juice than it gets when all of the three power hungry devices is on at the same time.

PDA net was cool until benm made this really cool plug and play tether config update. It turns on apple tethering on your phone and is super easy to use.

Your phone charges and tethers at the same time.

Care to explain how this tethering method works?
The main site is non english, I can't find documentation for the tethering.

Go to help.benm.at on your iphone scroll down to "tethering & internet settings" select "Mobileconfigs download >" find your carrier select install and enjoy your internet tethering via bluetooth or USB.
