carpc iphone remote control options?

so a while back, mp3car made a video of a wireless vga monitor, and a remote touchscreen, i really liked the idea(for shows, and wow factor), and still plan on implementing it later, but, in the meantime...

i have just gotten a iphone, and jailbroken it--- what are my options to remote control the pc? my idea is to have my rr interface sent over bluetooth/wifi, so that i can control all of the system without needing to see the screen in the dash.

my requirements are really only that it needs to control it, without physically seeing the display-- it doesn't need to be fast,or have a realtime display.

Try a VNC type program for the iPhone. This would display your computer screen on your iPhone and also give you the touch and input functionality.

would those work over just the wifi? i thought most vnc programs needed a internet connection-- neither the phone or the carputer will have a constant connection--both will need to be using either wifi, or bluetooth.

Setup an WIFI adhoc network on your carputer and then connect to it via the iPhone. Once you are connected to the adhoc WIFI network use a VNC program to connect to the carputer.

I think there are some programs that allow control of the computer from the iPhone. I have one that uses the WiFi to control the Mac. It requires that you be able to see the screen so you know what you are doing.

I think there are others out there that allow you to control functions on the PC. I seem to recall they run a client program on the PC.

Since you are jailbroken, I will assume you are using Cydia/Icy. You want Veency. It is a beta app,(as far as I know...) but it works really well. You just set up an ad-hoc network or use a current WiFi network, and use a VNC Client software(I use RealVNC) to access the iPhone from it's assigned IP address. It's also embeddable into RR and CF(I think, I haven't had a chance to try it on CF yet...)

I use Veency and a program from Cydia called Screensplitr to display the video of the iPhone to my Xenarc screen. It's helpful when using another GPS program from Cydia called xGPS. Another program called TVOut does something similar but on an app by app basis.

Of course, you have to have a video cable to do this, but I have a combo cable/charger so I don't burn the battery in the car. Check out the link in my sig to 'kill my car pc' for some vids about screensplitr.

i used to use iAmp for the ipod touch. it was a remote for winamp.
i *think* RR uses winamp as its music engine.
u can give that a try....

i wish there was a native ipod app for centrafuse....

XBMC (xbox media center) has a version for windows and a client that you can remotely control it, similar to Iremote for itunes.
