Power Inverter

would this inverter run good for just a laptop and external harddrive

800 watts is way more than you're going to need for that setup. You could get by with something a lot smaller that wouldn't have a noisy fan. Also, one never knows whether a particular inverter will survive crank until it's tried.

The 375 watt on the same page will do fine, but why not go for a DC-DC.

What kinda laptop? and stock psu?

A better idea than an inverter would be one of the auto/airplane adapters that allow you to power the laptop from the 12v dc directly. Smaller, stone cold quiet and much more effecient.

Plus, it's made to be used in this application.......
