is this a good pc for a carputer?

the plan was to use roadrunner or centrafuse as the frontend.

anyone know how difficault it is to have a carputer with:

GPS.
dvd/video.
tv-tuner.
voice command.
nightvison camera on the front bumper.
sound system
odb diagnostic's.

problem is that i cant fit a 2-din player in the car, couse of the ac panel in the car in the way.

sorry for the bad english.

That's more powerful than the laptop in my car, which does GPS and OBD stuff just fine. (It has no trouble with music either but I'm still using my car's factory stereo.)

You'll want a way to power it - I'm using a 12v-120v inverter, and the power supply that came with the laptop, but will be switching to a 12v power supply from http://epowersupply.us eventually (received it a while ago, haven't wired it up yet).

I'm pretty sure Centrafuse or RoadRunner can do everything you need, though I have only used RR briefly and seen CF in a friend's car.

I suspect you need to ask questions about something specific.

Your system will be faster than what most of us use. All GPS programs I've ever tried would work just fine even on a much slower computer.

okei, will it be ha problem for me to use a 12 to 120 volt adapter in norway? we use 230volt's.

all the reelay's that is needed for a carputer what is their job?

*** all of us we dont want to physicly go in the trunk and start the pc,i have read the faq¨s for soldering the power button, seem's "easy" since the power button is right over the keybord, wiering all of this to a button cant be hard? two wires that have to solderd in place??

what is the hardest part of carputer building? screen, laying the wires or knowing were to but reelyas and so on?

if i were to use a 7" xenarc og lillput screen, will it fit? (i know it's a stupid as hell question, but i work in the northsea and im not home for a mont and cant take any messurments here) a 7 or 8" screen is it wider then a normal 1-din cd player? if so are there any 2-din screen's whit vga input?

more to come =)

I'm guessing you can get a 12-to-230 unit in your home country, but of course I've never shopped for something like that.

How easy/hard it is to wire up the external power control really depends on the laptop. I tried and failed with an IBM T41, so I bought an HP 530 because someone said it was easy, and it was in fact pretty easy. Unless you can find a post from someone who has tried it with your laptop, you'll just have to find out for yourself.

What's hardest depends on where your skills are. I figured that molding the screen into my dash would be hard, so I paid someone else to do it. Everything else was fairly simple it just took time and effort.

Someone else with an Audi 100 will have to answer the screen question, I have no idea.
