Thumbs up Advent ADV3500 7" PC

I've been slowly looking for a good all-in-one unit like the Viliv 5 or 7 to act as my new carPC. I just happen to come across this Advent unit and searched on here to find no reviews. I know Advent in the past was a name I'd quickly passover as garbage but I highly doubt Advent is actually making these themselves.

http://www.buy.com/prod/advent-adv35...92&dcaid=17992

Anyways, it is 269 for the unit with Windows and everything. Wifi, Bluetooth, 30GB (Small but plenty large for my music collection), it looks like a fantastic solution for almost half the price of any other unit out there.

I'd probably just purchase Streetdeck for it and call it a day. Under 400 for a fully setup unit seems like a good deal.

Anyone have any experience with the unit?

That's funny, I just saw that Deal (I"m assuming your looking at the one from Buy.com.) I came and searched to see what the masses thought and all I found was your reply so far.
I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger myself, I'm running a full system with a 7 inch Lilliput in my truck but have been looking for a good windshield mount GPS for the wife's Van, and this is in the price range I've been looking and thinking I can run the same software I'm running so it's familiar to her. The only thing It doesn't have compared to the Garmin I've been looking at is an onboard battery so It can be used outside the car.

Would like to hear someone else's impressions so hopefully someone speaks up..

I stand corrected after some more reading it does have a battery.
Also with some searching it sounds like it's the same as the Jenson NVX3000PC

Only review I've found so far..

Well I went ahead and ordered one. We'll see how it works. I'll have to figure out how I'm going to integrate it into my car, I do see it has an FM transmitter. Until I get something that can run A2DP in the dash I guess that will have to do. I'll keep you updated. Paid for it and FedEx had it on a truck less than 30 mins later. Says I should have it Wed.

I went for it too. I've been messing around with an Asus netbook, trying to cleanly install it in my car, but this will make my life much easier. I'll try to ebay the Asus and hopefully get close to the $270 that the Advent cost.

I searched online for another review, and found this comment:

"i have one of these and would never recommend it. gps is very slow to lock in the satelites, battery life is pathetic and xp is slow (due to only 256mb memory) - cheers, anand"

The only thing that worries me there is xp being slow. As for the other points, I'll be using an external gps receiver and it will be plugged in all the time.

just found a forum which has a couple a couple of users talking bout their umpc

from what i read is that the RAM is soldered and the battery has a max of 2 hours (which isn't a problem, given the fact it will be acting as a carpc the whole time )

here is the link

i suggest you either dish out some cash for the viliv s5 or s7 which cost around 600 $ for both of them, even though it doesn't make sense to me since both have almost the same specs and the s7 has a larger screen

It surprises me that no one comments on this, at mp3car of all places. I've read through every thread/review on this and similar/derivative devices everywhere I can find one, here and at Amazon, fatwallet, slickdeals, mobilereaders, etc. and nobody says a thing about how the thing handles glare.
