looking for alternative to W3bmasters auto power on module.
Hey guys, im looking for w3bmasters auto power on module but it seems that he's not making them anymore. can anyone recommend any alternatives please? thanks in advance

If you want to permanently install the laptop in the car, how about a Carnetix.
Someone wired up a plug for the motherboard power lead into the side of the laptop. That would work, as well and looks clean as hell.
If you want portability or a Carnetix won't work w/ your laptop, how about rigging up a means of providing a WoL or WoR signal through the appropriate port?

ive tried the WoL and it doesnt seem to work reliably on this particular laptop, but even so i would still need to press a button wouldnt i? i havent heard of WoR, any information on that particualr subject would be appreciated. As for the carnetix, i thought that was primarily for full size motherboards such as the P4? i just ordered the laptop car charger to power it and i have a switch soldered to the button controller of the laptop so i can push a button at the front of the car to turn it on and im using shutcontrol to turn it off. im at a loss for other ideas other than w3bmasters module, but ive been waiting for about 2 months now for him to become available again and it doesnt seem like its going to happen. thanks in advance!

You need a time delay relay. When power is applied, it closes the relay for 2 seconds, then opens it. This site has a diagram of one and the second comment down is by a user who added a capacitor to make the circuit close for 10 seconds. Adjusting the cap would shorten the delay, I'm sure.

i purchased a 12V SPDT 30 AMP AUTOMOTIVE RELAY on the advice of someone for this site, they told me that with this relay when power is applied to the circuit the switch will be triggered and turn the laptop on. now my concern is that power is applied when when i turn the key twice, once when it goes to acc then during the crank the power turns off then on again. is this going to hit the switch twice if i simply use the relay? i dont know too much about relays so its all new to me. and if this is the case, will the schematic you pointed me to take care of that particular problem? thanks in advance

Probably. If you can figure out how to make it wait a few seconds, it will work.
The schematic I pointed you to should avoid that problem but read it closely. You want it to wait a few seconds before closing the relay, then close it for a short period of time, then release.

well i got the circuit diagram for w3bmasters module... if you can solder you should be able to make them by hand in 15 min

k got it working but looking at it something doesn't seem right. it looks like there's 3 separate circuits here that aren't connected. one with the ground and +12 v, one with the USB ground and the other that connects to the power switch. are you sure this is a true schematic? has anyone been able to build the module off of this? Im not the best at reading schematics, but i have done it before (i'm a bio med engineer) and this doesnt make much sense to me.
