How resume from standby by pressing keyboard or tapping mousepad/touchscreen?

On my girlfriends laptop (HP) it's possible to resume it from standby, just by pressing any button on the keyboard, or tapping the mousepad. On my IBM thinkpad however this doesn't work, why?

As i can resume the HP this way, I can also resume it by tapping my Lilliput touchscreen.

This was my idea for the IBM also, but I can't figure out where to activate this function.

Anyone who knows? (Guess it's quite easy...)

It's not standby. It's sleep mode. Not all hardware supports a sleep mode, including your Thinkpad.

Are you absolute sure it's the issue for my IBM R60, which is 2 years newer than the HPzt3000? It's called standby in Windows XP, or? The other alternative is Hibernation, as far as I know. Is sleepmode a third alternativ?

By the way, it's not a problem for me to make the Thinkpad go in either Standby mode or Hibernation mode, the problem here is to get it out of Standby mode just by touching any keyboard button or likewise the touchscreen on the Lilliput monitor. Guess there could be an option somewhere that says something like "wake up the computer by touching keyboard or something"

And by the way, my old desktop pc from 1998 supports this function too.

I had the same issue, I was able to fix it with a simple fix. You have to enable power management features for your USB devices. Let me find the key you have to add, and I'll post it for you.
