Noobie with a laptop.

I have a gateway m275 that I would like to use for a jeeputer. What modifications do I need to do to make this work. Or would it be better to do a purpose built jeeputer?

Think about where to mount it, how to power it and how to control it.
You are the only person that can say what is right for you.

you don't need to do any modifications to make it work... it already works (you wouldn't be using it if it didn't )

but seriously, you should start by reading How can I use a laptop as a carputer?, and Using a laptop as a carPC. the general FAQs should answer most other questions you might have.

there is nothing special about a jeep vs. any other car with regards to a carputer, the equipment install and setup is the same for any car. the only difference will be the monitor installation in your dash. check out the worklogs and completed projects forums to see other jeep installs if you need ideas.

good luck

Wow, a tablet in a Jeep.... biggest problem I can think of is off-roading. If you need GPS while off-road then you're gonna have to create a rigid mount, probably 3/32 stainless on three sides and latch the fourth. If not, GET ONE WITH A DOCK so you can easily remove it when the terrain gets rough or do like I did for my Mustang - build a rigid mount for the dock that somehow wedges the tablet in place and hope for the best. Tablets with docks are nice for multiple car installs and allow you to setup a test station at home.

Well, I am going another route. I am looking at getting a purpose built unit due to the shock and vibration in the jeep.
