TC1100 tablet parts

Hi guys im new.
i just recieved a hp tc1100 tablet pc pretty much barebones.
i have the unit including ram and keyboard.

it is however missing the battery ac adapter hard drive and stylus.

so i have a battery on the way and soon will get an ac charger.

now i have 2 main questions:
1) will any standard 2.5" ide 5400rpm hard drive work?

and 2) will any standard wacom stylus work?
i did some research about the stylus and saw that the tc1000 used finepoint pens while the tc1100's use the new digitizer wacom pens without batteries. the actual tc1100 pens on ebay are quite steep 55-60bux + , so i was wondering if all these pens were the same other than size and fitament into the pen slot on the tablet.

i found a pretty cheap wacom stylus on ebay:

and was wondering if this would work.
if not, could someone piont me to a cheap alternative? i got this tablet for free other than the parts to buy and need to maintain a strict budget which includes all the other parts. i wasnt planning on having to spend so much on just a stylus!!!! @#$%

when i get this up and running, i will be putting this in my truck as a multimedia kinda thing that is also portable for school and a place where i can write down events.

so if anyone can help me, i would appreciate it. the stylus is my main concern.

Did some research a few years ago... slept since then. Q1 yes, but it would be better to get a 7200RPM because XP uses virtual memory and the faster the drive the better. The hard part is finding all the drivers or restore disks to reinstall the Tablets OEM operating system. All tablet makers are different and just getting XP Tablet Edition isn't enough.

Q2 - I'm not sure; I was looking at one of those that was passive (TC1000, I think) don't know specs on TC1100. Passive means you can use anything to touch the screen - stylus, fingernail, etc.

im pretty sure any wacom digitizer pen will work

I used to have TC1100. I can tell you that the screen is near useless in daylight. I'm using a Fujitsu 5032D with an indoor/outdoor screen and it's night and day (haha.) difference.

That being said, you should be able to use any wacom pen that doesn't require batteries. You may lose the variable-pressure feature but unless you're an artist or heavy photoshopper, poking at buttons doesn't require that feature. I could use the Fujitsu pen on the TC1100 although obviously it doesn't fit in the holder. Be careful using the pen in the car, the plastic nib is easily broken off and you'll scratch your screen. I had a few custom-cut screen protectors made. I may still have a few lying around, PM me.

That said, don't bother looking at the dock. I thought about using the dock as the holder for a carpc. The dock contains active electronics in the base, and the plastic is not built to stand the abuse of car vibrations and heat. It'll break off in a corner and it's totally useless. Not to mention the actual mount is not easily removable from the docking base.

Yes, any 2.5" PATA drive will work. However you DO need the caddy if you don't already have it. If you need the restore discs, HP sent them to me for $7. (if you have an IBM, it's more like $70.) Good thing is that it's a normal XP Tablet install so you can run nLite on it, strip it all the extra (HP) junk and make it boot up in less than 30 seconds.

yea that is exactly what i did. seeing how fragile it is, i probably wont mount it in a car, rather carry it. i bought a wacom slim pen with pressure sensing for 14.99. got a 40gb hdd off ebay for 40 bux, and got the hp restore discs and dual booted it with vista ultimate. hp junk= recycle bin

TC1000 uses a stylus pen with a battery...the TC1100 doesn't.

we use to have a fleet of 150 of these TC1100, and they are slowly being decommissioned for recycling at our work. Horrible for outdoor screen.
