Cool Getting a Samsung Q1U and need some help / advice

The model number is going to be Samsung Q1U-EL NP-Q1UAY01 since I got a good deal on it.

Sadly, its running Vista and I'd like to install Win XP 2005 Tablet Edition but have not found any instructions on how to do that successfully. Does any one here know where I can buy a copy of it and how to install it so that all of the drivers, etc are installed properly?

Also, this model does NOT come with BlueTooth built in and was thinking that if I used BT to connect as many devices as possible (keyboard / mouse, GPS thingy, phone, rearview camera, etc.) that would be the cleanest solution in terms of fewer cables. Is all of this possible? What would be the most capable BT adaptor to get?

One last thing: I plan on installing RR as my front end and I've searched on the forum for installations on Vista (If I wind up having to use it) and it looks "do-able" - is that a fair assessment?

Thanks to any / all who offer help / guidance!!

will leave the tablet edition to your imagination but Samsung have all the XP drivers in their downloads section. Your not loosing much over regular XP if you cant find a copy anyway. Interestingly Samsung lists bluetooth drivers for your model and several sites say it has it so pass on that one. I don't think its a good idea to run all that on bluetooth anyway even if it is possible which I doubt it is.

Mind telling me more about your bluetooth comments or pointing me to info on it? I'm not at all familiar with all of the do's and don'ts.

Question #1 - Is this for a vehicle installation? You DO realize that this is a forum focused on vehicle computers, right?

Question #2 - If you go with all BT devices, are you prepared to have no functionality whatsoever when the BT adapter doesn't load properly?

Question #3 - Be aware that BT operates on a radio frequency that could interfere with cordless phones and other cordless devices and possibly induce interference (noise) in audio and video signals.

1. Yes, its for my car. I mentioned that one of the uses was for a rearview camera.

2. I can see how that would be the case but is that a common occurance?

3. So, should I avoid BT altogether, then? You seem to be very negative on its use..

I don't know if this will help much or not but I know that some UMPCs that have Vista Business come bundled with a XP Tablet "upgrade" disc as well. Not sure if the Q1 does or not but I know many do. That being said, these UMPCs should come with everything needed for the OS change including drivers.

Check out this though:

Hopefully that will help you out some

Thanks! That should help some.

I found a list of what the different models have:

http://www.q1ultramedia.com/pdf/Q1-Ultra-DatasheetL.pdf

I haven't received it yet so I'll have to see if it does contain the XP disk.

It's not too bad, really.
However it's a computer. Computers do unusual things sometimes. While not the norm, they are irritating and sometimes create situations that require some creative troubleshooting to resolve.
The more complicated your setup is, the more creative your troubleshooting needs to be and the more frustrating it can get.

So are you willing to deal with that?

For what you're talking about in a vehicle installation, yeah. I wouldn't use a BT keyboard and mouse in my car install.
I'm not against BT all together, mind you.
It has some very legitimate uses for in-car use such as cellphone connection, tethering to internet, and so on.
In my mind, that functionality is secondary. Anything that I consider a primary function (mouse, keyboard, GPS, etc.) have to be wired for me.

Other people have different opinions on this. None of them are wrong or right. They're just different viewpoints.
