First car computer :)

My girlfriend recently gave me a beater laptop/ nx5000 and ive always wanted a car computer in my wrx, so ive started the build.

Ive figured since im on a budget, im going to use my alpine 4 channel and a external 5.1 sound card (recommendation?) then purchase this lilliput 619 kit http://www.mechatroniks.com/wrx/ordering.html for my car.

I bought a gps usb reciever
GlobalSat BU-353 SiRF III USB GPS

a air/auto car adaptor for the laptop. 90w
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=190131229327

what is the cheapest solution to power the lcd?
and any helpful recommendations in wiring would eb awesome

I plan on wiring the adaptor to the cigarrette lighter and running a relay to the ignition wire, so it wont drain my car battery. Then wiring a switch from the laptops switch to somewhere hidden (batman style)...

Any helpful suggestions or diagrams would be awesome.. (im not so electronic savy, watts/amps/diodes... but if u give me a diagram, i can do it .

There are a lot of people who have posted diagrams, but here is my laptop one, sounds similar to what you are looking to do: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/lapt...ll-blanks.html

When i do my set up, currently i'm still in the planning stages like yourself, but i'm planning on using a dremel to remove one of my cig lighters from the dash area and run the screen of that behind the dash.

The lilliput should draw something like 1 amp.

You could easily build a 12v regulator for small money or find one designed for something else.

if you bought your lilliput new, then it should have come with a cig lighter cable (with an 'egg' regulator on the cable). you can cut off the lighter plug, but leave the 'egg', then hook it up to the car's 12V.
