Anyone used this to power up a laptop?

If so How did you implement it?

Thanks,

I know what WOL is I just wondered how you do it for a carpc?

is there a switch you can buy for powering it up from the lan socket?

Thats what I meant

From the sticky:

"one alternative to the power switch approach is a wake on ring or wake on lan type setup, but this only works on some boards & reliability can be a bit questionable, but if your dead set against opening the laptop this can be an area to explore."

I couldnt find much info via search, was trying to implement wake on lan/link to my laptop, compaq v700 series..

no option in bios, but options on network card
found it only worked when supplied with ac power
but made a switch, maybe 3 feet long, off of a DIY rj45 loopback device, wiring pins 1 and 3 together and 2 and 6.. put a momentary switch between 1 and 3, couldnt get it to work longer than 3 feet, low power i presume.

looking for a momentary relay i guess itd be called..sense 12v power when i turn on key, complete that wire for a second and trigger laptop to fire.

wake on lan is actual data sent over the network. These Magic Packet frames are directed to a specific MAC address and are sent by another computer to wake a remote computer. You cant just put a switch or something on the network cable.

then I suppose my motherboard supports wake on link change or something of that sort
as the loopback device (google.com:loopback rj45) works flawlessly with a momentary switch between 1+3
