Contant Power Cigarette Adapter

Hello.

In my Jetta 2006 cigarette adpter stays on even if the car is turned off. I am using a laptop and DC car charger for it. I have laptop in trunk along with amplifier. Last night I spliced the back of cigarette adapter in my car. I programmed it with Remote cable from amp, and it smoked the ***** out of my car. However car works fine. My question is that is there a way to have the cigarette lighter turn on only when the car is on?

Thanks

yes, remove the 12v power line from its source and connect it to the accessory line.

Ok I found that Accessory wire is same as remote wire. However I brought another connection from an amp ti cig adapter and it resulted into smoke. Please see the picture for more info. Could tell me why would it turn into smoke. Smoke was coming from dash, where amp remote wire connects to car's acc wire.

The accessory wire is not meant to carry power...its more of a signal wire. If you are lucky, you might have just blew a fuse somewhere in your fuse box. If you still want to go ahead and do the cigarette power mod, use a relay.

The bit that worries me is that your diagram has permanent 12v and the remote line going to the cig adapter. How did you wire that up?

So let me get this straight. You shorted your remote wire to ground and left the positive alone?
Oh boy...!

Yeah not good, the remote line is giving a switched +12V that activates when the radio is on.
What you should have done was with the help of a switched source, in this case the remote wire, with use a relay to interrupt the +12V wire of the cig lighter when the radio is off and trigger the cig lighter to activate when the radio is on. With the relay you want to wire it up to these terminals of the relay to the respective wire:
85 - remote wire
86 - ground
87a- not connected
87 - cig lighter wire +12V from car
30 - Cig lighter wire to the cig lighter
