as far as the 3400 goes, you should be able to run XP on it. the Fujitsu site only shows drivers for W2K, but they should work with XP. the only thing you should really be concerned with is the pen driver.

after alittle searching... it doesn't seem to work, atleast not with the W2K driver. If you can get a copy of XP Tablet PC Edition, it will work. I'll ask around, though. the driver i'm using on my 2300 isn't intended for a 2300, but it works perfectly.

or, you could just use W2K. it will perform better anyway.

For now I plan to use an RF mouse and keyboard. After I get it all up and running I'll attack you guys for questions on this. Right now my brain is to stuffed with all the other info, comments, and suggestions...my brains overloaded.....I'm confused...Haaaaaaaaaaa......STOP!!!!!

@muldrick, you most likely will be able to use the mainstream version of Windows XP (any version that is, not just Tablet Edition), but I doubt that this is a good idea. Sure this Tablet has 400 mhz and 192 megs of RAM, but it still might not be fast enough. I suggest you install Win98 SE, it's a good operating system. Besides, it wouldn't matter what OS you have on the tablet - you will be controlling your big PC and seing the big PC's screen. So if you have XP on the big PC, you will be seing XP on the Tablet

Congratulations on your buy. This looks like a good piece. In fact, you could easilly use it as your carputer just by itself without the big pc in your trunk. I would probably do that

The best thing is that if you decide to incorporate wireless control, you will be able to control your car's PC even outside the car with virtually any computer that has wifi and necessary software installed You could buy one of those "Basic Interface Devices" and make your PC control your car's locks, windows, lights, etc. You could have that Tablet act as your car keys

Yeahhhh...maybe I can get it to vacuum itself.....or...... change the engine oil

What about just leaving the NT 4.0 on it?
Yes, I could use it as the carputer by itself, but the big pc is much faster and I've got 120Gb of harddrive space on it. (8 Gigs of mp3's) and other software. (Besides, plenty of room in the truck)
Anyhow, could I just leave NT4.0 on the tablet? I've never even used 4.0, I've heard it is pretty limited?

Any threads here on "Basic Interface Devices"?

Well, NT doesn't support USB. I don't know, I never used it. It's similar to Windows 95 in a way, only it's more limited because not all software runs on it. However, NT stands for networking, so if you just want to remote control the big PC, it will be a good idea to just leave the NT. After all, you won't have to go through the trouble to install all the specific drivers such as touchscreen, etc.
I know that RAdmin has advanced support for NT. Also NT is pretty fast.

i would atleast go with W2K, but XP should work fine as long as you can get the pen to work. my everyday desktop is barely more powerful than the 3400 and i run XP, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. on a daily basis with no problems.

i searched around some more, and it seems that the W2K pen driver DOES work with XP, you just have to install the driver manually, through the device manager.

regardless of which OS you choose, 98se, W2K, XP, or even a linux distro... i'm sure you'll love the tablet.

Here, I made a picture for you:

On the left is my carputer's LCD (notice how well the non-glare glass is functioning!). On the right is my Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop. I am currently uploading new MP3s to the carputer. I am also using RAdmin software to control my carputer from my Dell while I'm at it. You can see that the Dell sees exactly what is on the carputer's LCD. Notice the mouse position - when I move the mouse cursor on Dell, it also moves on the carputer.

I can also go the other way around, I can control my dell with a carputer

Hey, look at me! I'm running Windows XP on my Pentium 133!

This picture shows my carputer controlling my Dell laptop which is exactly 25 times as powerful.
This is what you will be doing with your Tablet

It comes with NT, I have 95, 98 and Win 2000, I just upgraded a pc here at work to 2000. The pc is at least 4 years old (it says:x86 Family 6, 8 stepping, AT/AT Compatible. 133,488 KB Ram) whatever all that means. But I guess its about a 4-500 Mhz. After the upgrade it works really fast.
I think I'll upgrade to 2000, and I guess I'll have to find the pen driver.
Can you all tell me (exactly) what hardware I need for remote networking? I figured I might as well find and buy it now. As you know I want the tablet to work with the big pc in the back of the truck, but I want the big pc to communicate with my house pc. (for internet, synch files/mp3's etc.).
Wouldn't it be better to hardwire the big pc to the docking station (mounted on the dash) and then go wifi to the pc in the house with this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...geName=MERC_VI

If I hardwire the truck PC's, what do I use for (inter) communication...the Rad software?

i recommend ultraVNC because it's fast and free.

as far as networking the computers together. i would go with wireless all the way around. the most you would need is a few wifi cards and a router/WAP. the least you would need is 3 wifi cards... one for each computer, so they could connect directly to each other in 'ad hoc' mode.

http://www.homenethelp.com/802.11b/index.asp

i don't have much experience with wifi yet. hopefully somebody here can help you with more details. but, i can say that you should go with a good brand, not just the cheapest. places like www.newegg.com and www.pricewatch.com usually have decent prices on brand name components.

the W2K pen drivers are easy to find. go here http://support.fujitsupc.com/CS/Port...srch=DOWNLOADS select your tablet from the dropdown menus and it will take you to all the drivers.

I have the "display" PC up front. I have the main PC in the rear. If want to display on the screen what the main pc is doing...to truly work "through" the rear pc...to use the front unit as a display ONLY, then I can't go wireless. If I go wireles then I'm pretty much working "through" the front (display) pc, at only 400Mhz. (not the rear 1.2GHz)
Am I not correct?
If I am, then I would need to use the Par Technologies IREZ Capsure (50600) Video Input Card ( http://www.shopping.com/xPO-Par_Tech..._Capsure_50600 )
This way I am using the front pc as a display only. Am I wrong?
