Hopefully, you used the terms "Laptop" and "Shutdown". It would have gotten you this result: SDC's

The best defense is a good offense aye

Unfortunatly my lappy has a seperate board (that the buttons are soldered directly onto) that pushes onto pins on the mainboard. No luck for me, haha. Lifebook B btw.

I DO appreciate the usefull info though.

I think the best way, and possibly the way I'm gonna do it is with a linksys WRT54g or WRT54gs router with an upgraded firmware (hacked) that upon start up sends a lan wake up signal to the specified computer... do a search for "WOL" and "WRT54g"... a little bit more expensive, and bulkier but it gives you more options... like a portable wireless hotspot...

Incidently I actually own that router... But My wireless g usb adapter (wusb54g) shuts off when the pc hibernates.

~being a usb adapter it won't work for this - does anyone know of any software to keep a usb port/touchscreen "Awake" during hibernation so you can wake it up as you would with a ps2 mouse (fyi my lappy has win2000pro)

I hope you are not refering to this thread.

But, if you actually searched, you would have found threads from months ago with the answers. If the OP searched instead of thinking that he deserves specialized treatement from his own personal carputer assistant, and for that matter, all the people who posted after the thread with the information was posted didn't think the same way, and post their question, your search would have returned far fewer threads to read through, and certainly less threads with us veterans telling the OP to search.

The problem is not that we tell people to search. That is not what clutters the search results. What clutters the search results are the numerous posts that ask questions that have been answered before, because WE DON"T START THE THREAD, we just respond/react to it. IN fact, telling him to search will hopefully keep the OP and people like him from posting more threads with questions that have been answered before, effectively lessening the amount of stupid, worthless, threads that will show up in the future.

O.K. That makes sense, but just a cat5 cable won't help you. now, if we could only figure out how to send the wake up signal without a router.

Using an ethernet cable from the router would certainly not work! ~ Unless I want to drive around with a router in the car, haha.

Uh, it would work with the unit mentioned in the link, you should read it before you comment. And yes, youwould have to install the router in your car.

I personally think it would be nice to have router in my car because then I could share files with freinds and stuff...you can use ICS and when you connect to a hotspot your friends can also connect with out all having to use external antennas and stuff...

What I said and meant was that it wouldn't work without having the router in the car.... Which seems like a waste of power to me, but to each his own.

A router usually uses about 5W max.
