Trying to hack my laptop power button

I am trying to hack into my laptop power button but I am having trouble beacause all it is is a push button on the circut board. How can I possibly hack this? I also cant find a docking station for my laptop, if i wanted to go that route and hack that power button. It is a Sony Viao PCG-FX300.....anyone have any ideas at all? I need the button so I can turn the computer on from the front of the car. Please help!

there should be two or more contacts where the push button is soddered to the board. try shorting those contacts and see if it turns your laptop on and off.

that tiny little push button switch has even tinyer little "legs" at the 4 corners, you will need to solder to that!!!!!!

it seems real intimidating, but can be done with a small soldering iron..... tin a tiny wire & then press it to the terminal & quickly heat & release.... if it doesn't work heat a little more, then release..... eventually you will get it to stick & it will be a weak connection, thats kinda expected.... secure it depending on what's around it.... some use hot glue... if there is a spot to secure the wire itself to prevent it from getting pulled even better

oh yeah, to determine which two corners just test with a quick jumper.... if the laptop starts with the two you try, those are them, if not, try again....

Post a pic, that would help tremendously, BUT, in general NO, it will not harm the circuit board, how do you think they attach the components on the board??

Just make sure too not overheat anything. That is why it was suggested that you use the soldering iron by touching the switch, and removing it, increasing the time until the wire stays there. Also, try and use a low wattage iron, say 15 watts or so. Besides, the larger ones (25 watts and up) usually don't come with fine tips, because they are too strong for that.
