Would this work? Laptop to remain on 24/7

I want my laptop to remain on 24/7, plus maybe some other devices, even when the car is shut off.

I plan on using a relay to a 12V dc-dc regulator, to the laptop's car power adapter.

This way, when the car is shut off, the relay will close, and the laptop will switch to battery power.

Would this work? Hopefully the laptop can survive 2 days without power.

I might get an external lithium battery for my laptop, though.

2 days on a battery? sure you dont want to change that to 4 hours? unless you leave it in standby/hibernation.

There isn't a laptop made that will stay on that long, even with a dual battery setup. You may find a combination that will keep it going for about 12-16 hours, but that's the best you'll do.

Even if you were to make it work (with some large custom battery setup or whatever) it'll never be able to charge enough while the car is on unless you drive like 8 hrs a day.

have it switch to standby on power lost, stand-by it should last quite awhile, even with just one battery. and some laptop software allows you to set it up so at say "50%" battery life the system will drop to 50% preformance to allow the battery to get a better change. ( i recall reading this some where, but i can't recall the site ) I'm also looking to put a laptop in my car so i'm been tring to look for any kinks.

The problem with your theory is that not all laptops offer this power saving feature. Even so, the opriginal poster wants to leave the laptop ON, not in standby mode.
You're going to need multiple batteries to leave the laptop running, even in a powersaving mod e(assuming its available) for the length of time he wants it on.

He said remain on, not ON and standby is still on. The ram has power. Hibernate is not on the ram doesn't have power. Doing the standby thing seems like a mighty fine idea to me.

But you can't access the computer (locally or remotely) when the computer is in standby.
I guess the way I see it, if you can't access anything with the computer, it's not 'on'.

HAHAHAHAHA, since when does "on" mean standby or hibernate. Has anyone ever said, I need to turn my computer on, and put it into Hibernate r Standby. All those people who "shut down" into standby are really turning thier computers on? I hope they know.
