Tft lcd swaps on laptops?

Might be a dumb question but my searching hasnt revealed any answers. Can you swap a laptop monitor out for another monitor of a different maker?

My planned carputer is going to be a sony viao laptop but I want to upgrade the monitor to an lcd higher resolution. The screen wont be connnected to the laptop base and will be freestanding so I dont see too big of a problem with it. Also I might try an lcd usb screen if that doesnt work.

you will be better off buyign a lilliput or xenac screen (7 inch touchscreen), mounting it in the dash and connecting that to the vga (and usb) port in the back of the computer.

also, you cannot switch laptop monitors out, the controller board for the monitor is usally right above the keyboard on the main part of the computer (i.e. above the mother board) or incorporated into the motherboard itself. the problem you will have is that it will be IMPOSSIBLE to switch this board, since almost every one is modified for that case.
