i think you could use a pcmcia tv tuner, and then get an RF adaptor for the xbox and hook it up to your computer that way i would suppose

do you think using the docking station is a good idea i thought of using this because it has 5 usb ports and i could also hook up wireless mouse and keyboard to it to stay in the truck.

you can do everything you talked about. buy a screen with multiple inputs, the vga for the laptop & rca for the xbox.
a word of advice, selecting the right power supply is usually overlooked. if you haven't already done so, read the FAQ section about power supplies to get an idea of what you need. look for phrases like startup/shutdown and regulated voltage.

i use a docking station and a laptop in my car. i like it because i can take the laptop with me when i travel. if you are worried about usb ports, you could always get a usb hub.

i'm curious as to how a pcmcia tv tuner works and what is the advantages of having one. i looked around online and i see it lets my plug tv and fm signals into my laptop but will this be useful away from home?

you are confusing the words "tv" with "screen". you want to view your laptop and xbox on the screen. if you want to watch television, you need to buy some additional hardware.
as far as the tv tuner, many people have said they get poor reception if any while moving.

If your laptop has a video output port, yes you can. But the video quality won't be good.
I've tried playing online game on my TV using my laptop, the graphic on the TV really discourage me from playing.
