Can I plug an AMD XP 2000+ into a laptop?

Will it damage anything if I try to plug my amd xp 2000+cpu (non-mobile) into my laptop motherboard with a duron 1100 mobile cpu? Its alright if it don't work, but will it damage anything if I test it? They are both Socket A CPUs. Thanks!

Possibly.
It's likely taht it will work, although there will be two possibl issues:
1 - Heat dissipation. Teh AthlonXP will generate far more heat than the mobile Duron, and you're going to have to pull it out of the laptop casing somehow.
2 - The laptop may not be able to identify the AthlonXP properly, meaning you'll have to set FSB & multiplier settings manually, either in the BIOS, through jumpers or using the pin mod.

Well, I'm going to look into it. The main reason I want to try it is not to install into my car. I wanted to test the motherboard with a faster processor. If it works, I'll probably get a mobile version.

OK, I tried the athlon xp 2000+ in my computer and it registered as an amd athlon 1200 mobile, but it crashed windows xp. . .blue screen (maybe overheated?). The fan kicked into super turbo mode as the 2000 generated a lot more heat. I guess this means it will not handle any more than 1200 megahertz (obviously a limitation of the board), so here's my question: If I buy lets say a mobile amd athlon xp 2000+ cpu, do you think it will be stable under windows xp? Will it run cooler than the stock 1100 mhz cpu as the new one will in essence be running underclocked to 1200 mhz? Thanks! BTW, I think my old 1100 duron bit the dust. I don't know what happened, but the computer just turned off while I was on my way home. I'm thinking it overheated, but I don't know. It won't even boot with the 1100 in the socket. I had a 1000 duron mobile laying around so I plugged it in and it boots perfectly to that. The freedom skin for roadrunner even runs under less cpu load. I guess the old cpu was just bad?
